Puducherry logged 139 fresh Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours taking the overall tally in the union territory to 1,76,793, a senior Health department official said on Friday.
The number of active cases stood at 515 with 18 patients undergoing treatment in hospitals (four in Jipmer, four in Puducherry Government Chest clinic and 10 in Covid care centres), Director of Health G Sriramulu said in a press release.

As many as 497 patients were in home quarantine, he said, adding 40 patients recovered from the infection during the last 24 hours ending 10 AM Friday, taking the overall recoveries to 1,74,300. The union territory recorded 139 new coronavirus cases in the last 24 hours as against the 104 on Thursday.
The Health Department tested 1,019 samples during the last 24 hours which saw 139 new cases being detected. The department has so far tested 24,98,327 samples and found 21,29,053 to be negative. Sriramulu said the Puducherry region alone clocked 100 of the 139 new cases while Karaikal accounted for 32, followed by Yanam (5) and Mahe (two).
The test positivity rate shot up to 13.64 per cent as against 9.92 per cent on Thursday. No fatality was reported from any of the four regions. The Director said 40 patients recovered during the last 24 hours and the recovery rate was 98.59 per cent. The death toll remained at 1,978.
