Railways Asks Delhi’s 2 Prominent Mosques To Vacate From Its Land

The railways has issued evacuation notices to Bengali Market Mosque and Babar Shah Takiya Mosque in the national capital, Delhi.

The Indian Railways has issued evacuation notices to Delhi’s two prominent mosques—Bengali Market Mosque and Babar Shah Takiya Mosque.

The Northern Railway administration in has reportdely issued notices to the two mosques demanding the removal of encroachments within 15 days.

The railway authorities have warned that “if the encroachments are not removed within the stipulated timeframe, they will take necessary action to reclaim their land.”

The railway administration has stated “their land has been illegally encroached upon, and they are urging the concerned parties to voluntarily remove any unauthorized buildings, temples, mosques, or shrines constructed on their property. Failure to comply with the notice will lead to action taken by the railway administration, in accordance with the Railway Act, to reclaim the encroached land.”

It also said “the parties responsible for the encroachments will be held accountable for any damages incurred during the process, relieving the railway administration of any liabilities.”

The Babar Shah Takiya Mosque's is nearly 400 years old, the reports mentioned.

Besides, the railway authorities has issued notice to the adjacent office of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) for Malaria, demanding the evacuation of the premises.

The historic mosques have long been an integral part of the religious and cultural landscape of Delhi. 

However, the railway's latest claim of ownership of the land has raised debates and discussions within the local community.

The railway authorities assert that the structures were built on their land without permission.

However, the mosque committee, as per the reports state that these mosques hold significant historical value and have stood for centuries.
