Rajasthan Election 2023 Results: BJP seems to be successful in snatching desert state—Rajasthan from Congress as the state’s electoral mood didn’t see a major change as it kept with its tradition of voting in favour of anti-incumbency, as per the trends.
BJP reclaims power in Rajasthan with 115 seats out of 199 in assembly elections, while Congress secures 68 seats. The final result for one seat is pending as the Congress holds a narrow lead. Other parties, including the Bharat Adivasi Party, Bahujan Samaj Party, Rashtriya Lok Dal, Rashtriya Loktantrik Party, and Independents, also secure seats in the diverse political landscape.
There were 1,862 candidates in the fray in Rajasthan this time.
The election saw a direct tussle between the Congress and BJP.
Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot was confident that Congress will emerge victorious as he negates anti-incumbency factor in the state. However, the trends show BJP emerging as winner in the desert state.
There had been a voter turnout of 75.45 per cent, which was slightly higher compared to the statistics of 74.71 percent in 2018.
The Congress party had won the 2018 polls, with 100 seats as compared to BJP's 73. Party veteran Ashok Gehlot was sworn in as the state chief minister for the third time in 2018. In 2013, the BJP had secured a gargantuan majority with 163 seats, with Vasundhara Raje leading the government as the chief minister for the second time. The Congress' strength was reduced to just 21 seats in the Assembly.
Ahead of 2024 Lok Sabha elections, both Congress and BJP are closely keeping their eyes on the mood of electorate in the state.
