Blackbuck Poaching Case: Salman Khan Did Not Appear Before Jodhpur Court, Bail Plea To Be Heard Tomorrow

Actor, Salman Khan, 52, was sentenced to five-years in jail by Jodhpur sessions court on Thursday for poaching two blackbuck in 1998.

After being convicted in the blackbuck poaching case in 1998 and sentenced to five years in prison, actor, Salman Khan was to submit his bail plea today but he did not come to court, NDTV reported. The bail plea will be heard tomorrow. 

Khan was sentenced for killing two blackbucks about 20 years ago and has been kept in ward no. 2, adjacent to the cell of self-styled godman Asaram. At the Jodhpur Central Jail Khan is 'Qaidi No. 106'. He was served simple dal-roti which he did not eat.

Jail superintendent Vikram Singh, while briefing the media on the celebrity inmate, said Khan would be treated as a normal prisoner and no special treatment would be given to him.

He will have a simple wooden bed, a rug and a cooler in his cell, Singh said.

(Khan) was given normal jail diet like Dal chapatti and the morning meal will include simple khichdi," he said.

Pronouncing the verdict in the two-decade-old case, the court yesterday convicted the actor  and let off other accused in the case - Tabu, Saif Ali Khan, Sonali Bendre, Neelam.

A penalty of Rs. 10,000 was also levied on him.

The actor is accused of killing two blackbucks in the Kankani village near Jodhpur in 1998 during the shooting of the film 'Hum Saath Saath Hain'.

He was charged under Section 51 of the Wildlife (Protection) Act and others under Section 51 read with Section 149 (unlawful assembly) of the Indian Penal Code.

Sources, however, said the Bollywood icon did not eat the jail food.

Singh said that the actor had a blood pressure issue when he came inside the jail and the doctor of the prison dispensary checked him. His blood pressure was later declared normal.

On the reported threat to Khan by a gangster, Singh said, they are thinking of keeping him with some other prisoners from tomorrow so that he is not alone considering the threat to him."

A local gangster had reportedly said he would kill Khan in Jodhpur.
