Maharashtra: Sharad Pawar Disowns Ajit Pawar's Coup, Says NCP Does Not Endorse His Actions

With an unwavering resolve to resurrect the NCP and seek people's support, Sharad Pawar vows to play a pivotal role in the united opposition for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections in 2024.

In a decisive move, Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader Sharad Pawar distanced himself from Ajit Pawar's actions, asserting that the party did not endorse his rebellion and it was solely his individual decision. Addressing the media with unwavering determination to revive the party and play a crucial role in the united opposition for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, the 83-year-old leader expressed that today's developments might surprise many, but not him. He drew parallels to a similar situation he faced in 1980, where all the leaders of the party he led had left, but he successfully resurrected the party.

Sharad Pawar's press conference swiftly followed Ajit Pawar's claim of having the support and blessings of numerous individuals while joining forces with the Shinde-Fadnavis government. "I am glad that PM Modi has absolved some NCP colleagues of corruption charges, as they are now inducted as ministers in the government," Sharad Pawar commented. He also disclosed that Mamata Banerjee and Mallikarjun Kharge had reached out to him, extending their support. Unperturbed by the events, Sharad Pawar stated that he was not worried and that he would seek the people's support. He expressed confidence in their backing and shared plans to seek the blessings of YB Chavan, a former Maharashtra CM, and organize a public meeting.

In a notable statement, Sharad Pawar emphasized that this issue was not about his home being split, but rather about the people's interests. He expressed concern for the future of those who had departed and credited PM Modi for the situation. Referring to the PM's recent statements on the NCP, Sharad Pawar acknowledged that the allegations of corruption and irrigation complaints had been addressed by the induction of some of his colleagues into the NDA government. He thanked PM Modi for this development, according to Hindustan Times.

Regarding internal matters, Sharad Pawar highlighted that he would take action against Praful Patel and Sunil Tatkare for not fulfilling their responsibilities. Praful Patel was present at Ajit Pawar's swearing-in and the subsequent press conference.

Looking ahead, Sharad Pawar confirmed that he would not engage in a legal battle with Ajit Pawar over the election symbol. Instead, he intended to reach out to the people, relying on their support in the forthcoming endeavors of the party.
