The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) too issued a notice to the Uttar Pradesh government and the state police, seeking a detailed report into the Muzaffarnagar incident. The panel said the contents of the media report, if true, amount to a violation of the victim's human rights. The commission also noted that teacher has still not been arrested as of August 28.
The NHRC has issued notices to the chief secretary and the director general of police, Uttar Pradesh, seeking a detailed report in the matter within four weeks. The report should include details about the action taken against the teacher, the status of the FIR registered and the compensation, if any, paid to the aggrieved family, as well as steps taken or proposed to be initiated to prevent a repeat of such incidents, the NHRC said.
The Uttar Pradesh police filed a case against the teacher but of non-congnizable offences which leads to a non-cognisable report (NCR) that has to acted upon by a judge. It is only after a judge's order that the police can investigate the case and make an arrest. It is not the same as a First Information Report (FIR), following which the police can start an investigation on its own. The hashtag #ArrestTriptaTyagi has been trending on X ever since the video went viral.
Meanwhile, the school remained closed for the fourth day on Tuesday, with its management saying that they were busy replying to the show cause notice served to it by the education department over the school's affiliation. The concerned school boy has been moved to another private school some kilometres from the Khubbapur village.
