Two Arrested In South Goa With 150kg Of Explosives And 300 Detonators

The duo was taken into custody in the Sanvordem area after being found in possession of 150 kg of gelatin sticks and 300 detonators, raising concerns over public safety and unauthorized access to hazardous materials.

On Thursday, a significant operation led to the arrest of two individuals in South Goa for allegedly carrying a massive cache of explosives. The senior crime branch official reported that Bhujang Khatvkar (32) and Talak Baptist (35) were taken into custody at Guddemol in the Sanvordem area, according to PTI reports.

The apprehended duo was found in possession of 1,200 gelatin sticks, weighing a total of 150 kg, and six bundles containing 300 electronic detonators. Gelatin sticks are commonly used as explosive materials in industrial sectors for mining and construction-related work.

Upon further investigation, the two suspects confessed to obtaining the explosives without valid licenses, intending to utilize them unlawfully in a stone quarry.

As a consequence of their actions, a case has been registered against the accused under the Indian Penal Code section 286, which deals with negligent conduct related to explosive substances, and the Explosive Substances Act.
