Watch: Two Passengers Block Door On Mumbai Local Train, Pulled And Thrashed By Commuters

A video of the incident went viral on social media platforms today, showing an ugly brawl at the Diva station in Thane district.

Two commuters on a Mumbai local train were pounded on and brutally thrashed by a group of passengers after they tried to block the door of the train at the busy Diva station in Thane district, police said on Thursday.

A video of the incident, which happened earlier in the week, went viral on social media platforms today, showing an ugly brawl where a group of passengers pulled two men off the train and started kicking and beating them up.

Some of the angry people also hit them with shoes, while some others were seen trying to save them.

The train was heading towards Karjat and had stopped at Diva station.

Lata Argade, a passenger activist, told PTI that the scuffle was "unfortunate" and the railway and state authorities should be blamed for not providing adequate trains and infrastructure for the suburban areas.

An official of Thane Government Railway Police, under whose jurisdiction Diva station falls, told the agency that since nobody came forward to file a complaint, no case had been registered so far.

Meanwhile, a Railway Protection Force officer said that before the fight at the station, there was an incident of an alarm chain pulling on the Karjat-bound local. A case was registered in that context.

Local trains are the lifeline of Mumbai and its neighbouring areas with nearly 75 lakh commuters travelling on a daily basis. It is one of the busiest suburban railway networks in the country.
