Weather News: Heavy rains continue to lash over the southern states of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, triggering flash floods and the cancellation of nearly 140 trains in the states. Chief Ministers Chandrababu Naidu and Revanth Reddy have taken note of the situation and deployed disaster relief teams.
A red alert has been sounded for parts fo Telangana and Andhra Pradesh as the southern states continue to witness heavy rains. The heavy rains over the weekend have also triggered flash floods in the states, prompting evaucations of those living in low lying areas.
In view of the torrential rains, Prime Minister Narendra Modi dialled the Chief Ministers of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana - Chandrababu Naidu and Revanth Reddy.
PM Modi on Sunday assured both CMs of all possible help from the Centre to deal with the crisis following heavy rains in their states.
On Sunday, the Secunderabad-headquartered South Central Railway (SCR) zone, which also includes the Vijayawada Division, cancelled 140 trains and diverted 97 more on Sunday in view of the heavy rains in both states.
Furthermore in Telangana, all schools in the Hyderabad district were shut and a holiday was announced for Monday.
A total of 26 National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams have been being deployed for flood relief and rescue operations in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh.
While 12 teams are already deployed in the two neighbouring states, 14 more are being dispatched. Out of these 14 teams, eight are being airlifted from various locations across the country, said officials.
The Indian Meteorological Department of India (IMD) has predicted heavy to very heavy rains in most parts of Gujarat for the next five days till Thursday.
While the state is out of the grip of the rare Cyclone Asna that was expected over Saurashtra and Kutch regions, Gujarat is set to witness winds up to the speeds of 40 to 50 kms per hour. The orange alert is active for heavy rainfall over the Vadodara, Bharuch, Anand, Narmada, Panchmahal, Dahod, and Chota Udepur districts.
In view of thee heavy rains Cyberabad Police have advised IT companies to allow their employees to work from home on Monday in view of the red alert sounded by the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD).
"In view of continuous rainfall and the red alert issued by the IMD, I request all IT and ITES companies to encourage work from home on September 2 (Monday)," D Joel Davis, Joint Commissioner of Police, Traffic, Cyberabad, said in a statement posted on X.
As per the weather department, rainfall in the month of September is expected to be "above normal". In North India, heavy rainfall is expected for the states of Uttarakhand, Rajasthan and parts of Himachal Pradesh and Punjab.
Following the trend of August, where India reported 16 percent over the average rainfall rate, September is also expected to be rainy.
Despite the "above normal" rain alert, certain parts of the country such as north Bihar, northeast UP, most parts of northeast India, extreme northwest India and parts of south peninsular India - the rainfall is expected to be 'below normal
As Andhra Pradesh continues to witness heavy rains, the district of Vijayawada has been impacted severely. Waterloogging has been reported from several areas as a flood-like situation emerges. Over the weekend, around eight people were killed due to landslifes and house collapses in the district.
In view of the heavy rains in the state, Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu carried out an inspection of the flood affected areas in Andhra Pradesh. The CM was spotted during an inspection at Vijayawada.
As per the weather department, moderate rain showers are expected over Delhi on Monday. The weather department further added that the maximum and minimum temperature are likely to hover around 34 degrees Celsius and 26 degrees Celsius respectively.
As per the Indian Meteorological Department, a red alert is active for the states of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. As per the weather department, these states will experience extremely heavy rainfall.
Furthermore, an orange alert was issued for West Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Central Maharashtra and Karnataka.
Due to heavy rains and waterlogging over the tracks at several locations on the South Central Railway, more trains have been diverted. As of Sunday, a total of 140 trains have been cancelled and around 97 were diverted.
As per reports, a total of 27 people have been killed in rain-related incidents in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.
Telangana, around 15 people are said to have died and 12 in Andhra Pradesh were killed on Sunday.
Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu visited Vijayawada of Krishna district on Monday to inspect the flood situation.
The Palair Reservoir in Khammam district of Telangana overflowed on Monday due to heavy rains over the last few days in the state.
On flood situation in several states of the country including Telangana, Gujarat and Andhra Pradesh, Samajwadi Party spokesperson Ameeque Jamei on Monday said, "Be it Telangana, Andhra or Gujarat, the roads have broken. There was no way for the water to subside that was released towards Ahmedabad. The infrastructure of Ahmedabad to Gandhinagar was exposed. The govt should help the needy, poor. Their work has been affected. Gujarat model was talked about, the roads broke in just one rain."
Drone visuals of the site where the railway track near Intakanne railway station connecting Kesamudram and Intakanne was washed away yesterday due to the heavy rains in Telangana's Mahabubabad.

Landslides triggered by heavy rain left the Badrinath national highway in Uttarakhand's Chamoli district blocked at several points.
The highway is blocked at Pagalnala, Patalganga and Nandaprayag and efforts are being made to reopen it, the district disaster management centre here said.
Seven shops in the Simli market were damaged by landslide debris, it said.
The Jyotirmath-Malari road connecting the India-China border including the Karnaprayag-Gwaldam national highway has also been blocked due to a landslide, the district disaster management centre said.

A total of 109 roads including National Highway 707, have been closed in Himachal Pradesh due to rains. Amid the rainfall, the local meteorological office has warned of of low to moderate flash flood risk in parts of Chamba, Kangra, Mandi, Shimla, Sirmaur, Solan, Kullu and Kinnaur till Tuesday.
A 'yellow' alert ha also been issued for heavy rain, thunderstorm and lightning at isolated places in the state till Tuesday.
Apart from National Highway 707, 55 roads were closed in Sirmaur, 23 in Shimla, 10 each in Mandi and Kangra, nine in Kullu, one each in Lahaul and Spiti and Una districts, as per the data shared by the state emergency operation centre (SEOC).
In its latest update, the IMD said several districts of Telangana recorded widespread rainfall. Kumaram Bheem district received almost 19 cm of rains, while Nizamabad and Nirmal districts recorded 12 cm of rains.

Due to heavy rain and water logging over tracks at many places locations under South Western Railway's (SWR) jurisdiction, the East Central Railway on Monday cancelled several trains on Monday.
A statement issued by Sharswati Chandra, Chief Public Relation Officer (CPRO) of East Central Railway on Monday said, "Due to heavy rain and water logging over tracks at several locations in the SWR, the ECR cancelled Sangha Mitra Express (from Danapur to Bengaluru-12296) and Danapur-Bengaluru special train (06510) which was scheduled to depart from Danapur on September 4."
"Two more trains have also been cancelled due track breach following heavy rains at Rayanapadu railway station in SWR. These trains include: Bengaluru-Danapur (12295), Bengaluru-Danapur special (06509)," said the CPRO.
Meteorological Department has predicted dry weather in Jammu and Kashmir till September 12. However it added that brief spell of rain at isolated parts likely to occur in the meanwhile.

Two women pilgrims died while a girl was injured in a landslide on the new track to the Vaishno Devi shrine in Jammu and Kashmir's Reasi district on Monday.
According to news agency PTI, the incident occurred near Panchi, three kilometres ahead of Bhawan, at approximately 2:35 pm on Monday. A portion of an overhead iron structure was also damaged in the landslide.
The Air Quality Index (AQI) of the national capital was recorded in the "satisfactory" category with a reading of 83 at 11 am, according to the Central Pollution Control Board.
An AQI between zero and 50 is considered "good", 51 and 100 "satisfactory", 101 and 200 "moderate", 201 and 300 "poor", 301 and 400 "very poor", and 401 and 500 "severe".
The Mizoram government on Monday asked people to take necessary precautions in view of the heavy rain that has been battering the state.
In a public notice issued on Monday, the state Disaster Management and Rehabilitation Department requested every household to check their surroundings to ensure there is proper drainage of rainwater.
"The government has reminded all to take necessary precautions as the ground has become more vulnerable due to prolonged heavy rainfall," the notice said.
Torrential downpour in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh left 31 persons dead, battered roads and rail tracks snapping connectivity, submerged thousands of acres of agricultural crops and left people scampering for daily needs as rescue agencies were pressed into rescue and rehabilitation efforts.
Nearly 4.5 lakh people were affected in Andhra, even as heart-wrenching scenes of people struggling to ensure essentials, including milk were witnessed in the worst affected Vijayawada.
