IMD Forecast LIVE: Red Alert Issued For Heavy Rainfall In 5 States

The India Meteorological Department on Sunday issued a ‘red’ alert for East Rajasthan, East Madhya Pradesh, West Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Konkan, Goa and Central Maharashtra regions, predicting heavy rains in these regions. 

"Monsoon is in its active phase. There is a deep depression in North East MP. There is low pressure in Southwest Rajasthan. We expect extremely heavy rainfall in western Madhya Pradesh, eastern Rajasthan, Gujarat, Konkan region, Goa and Central Maharashtra for which we have also issued a red alert. There will be no rain in Delhi-NCR in the next two days,"IMD scientist, Dr Naresh Kumar told news agency ANI.

The death toll due to flash floods triggered by cloudbursts in three districts of Himachal Pradesh has increased to 13 with the recovery of four bodies from Mandi and Shimla districts on Sunday

Over 40 people are still missing after a series of cloudbursts occurred in Kullu's Nirmand, Sainj and Malana, Mandi's Padhar and Shimla's Rampur subdivision on the night of July 31 and wreaked havoc.

Over 400 people, including devotees, stranded on the rain-ravaged trek route to Kedarnath, have been evacuated and sent to Lincholi to be airlifted as the rescue operation continued for the fourth consecutive day on Sunday.

Uttarakhand Disaster Management and Rehabilitation Secretary Vinod Kumar Suman said that only 350 passengers are left to be evacuated from Kedarnath and 50 in Lyncholi. So far, more than 10,000 people have been shifted to safe places.

On Sunday, south Bengal saw a break from the heavy rainfall it had received until Saturday morning, Met officials said, PTI reported. 

In contrast, the sub-Himalayan districts—Darjeeling, Kalimpong, Jalpaiguri, Alipurduar, and Cooch Behar—are likely to receive heavy to very heavy rainfall until August 8, they said.

The Kerala government has initiated steps to identify the missing people in the landslide that hit the Mundakkai region of Wayanad district and started collecting the blood samples of survivors and relatives for DNA analysis.

While the health department has begun collecting blood samples for DNA analysis, the Civil Supplies Department has started collecting the details of ration cards, the Aadhaar number, and linked phone numbers to identify the missing people. 

The total number of bodies found in the Chaliyar river is 75, and body parts are 142, making a grim total of 217.

The National Disaster Response Force on Monday rescued seven people who were stranded in Hinglaj village in the Valsad district of Gujarat due to heavy rainfall and high tide in the Auranga River.

The NDRF personnel carried out the rescue operation in the early hours of Monday. The people who were stranded are fishermen, ANI reported.

The weather office in Mizoram has forecast heavy to very rainfall at various places in the northeastern state over the next one week, officials said on Sunday.

An alert has also been issued by various district administrations, warning of downpour during the period, as per predictions by the India Meteorological Department, they said. The state, district and village-level disaster management committees have been asked to be in readiness for any eventuality, the officials said.

Picturesque hamlets of Mundakkai, Chooralmala, Attamala, and Noolpuzha in Kerala's Wayanad district now resemble a post-apocalyptic world with no traces of roads or streets after massive landslides triggered by torrential rains that struck early hours of Tuesday, killing dozens and leaving scores trapped or buried under silt and mud.

Fears of mounting fatalities have been sparked by suspicions that several people may still be trapped under the debris.

Wayanad, a hill district in northern Kerala, is known for its lush green forests, rolling hills, and sparkling waterfalls.

A flood-like situation has arisen in Ekta Nagar, Pune city. Officials from the Pune Fire Brigade have been deployed in the area. 

Army personnel were deployed in an inundated residential area of Pune amid heavy downpours and water discharge from the Khadakwasla dam, officials said on Sunday.

In view of the water discharge from Khadakwasla, Mulshi, Pavana, and other dams in the Pune region, Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde directed authorities to be alert and shift people from dangerous zones to safer places with the assistance of NDRF, SDRF, and the Army, if necessary.

Kerala Landslides News LIVE: Drones Ferry Food To Relief Workers

As the challenging search for survivors and victims continues in the devastated landscape of landslide-ravaged Wayanad villages, authorities have turned to unmanned aerial vehicles to transport food packets to regions that still remain out of reach by traditional means.

In a bid to sustain the hundreds of personnel searching the treacherous terrain for signs of life, authorities employed modern drones capable of carrying food packets for up to 10 people at a time.

"A rapid food and water delivery system has been established to support rescue workers. Drone operations enabled the direct delivery of food to personnel operating heavy machinery, such as Hitachi and JCB equipment," according to an official release on Monday.

Wayanad Landslides Latest: Death Toll Reaches 222

The death toll in the series of deadly landslides that rocked the hamlets of Kerala's Wayanad last week has touched 222, according to the state government on Monday, news agency PTI reported.

Among the total dead, 97 were male, 88 were female, and 37 were children, as per the latest figures released by the Chief Minister's Office (CMO). Among the 222 people dead, the bodies of 172 have been identified by their relatives, it said.

A total of 180 body parts have been recovered so far from various places, and the post-mortem of 161 of them has been completed.

IMD Forecast LIVE: Orange Alert Issued In These States 

On Monday, August 5, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued an orange alert for the states of Manipur, Mizoram, Gujarat, Sikkim, West Bengal, Nagaland, Tripura, Assam, Meghalaya, Maharashtra, and Rajasthan predicting severe rainfall.

Heavy rain is not predicted for today in Delhi, but some precipitation is expected during the day.

Wayanad Landslides Rescue Op: 18-Member Team Stranded Near Waterfall

Officials said that an 18-member team stranded near a waterfall in the forest in the landslides-hit Wayanad district of Kerala is safe.

One of the group members told a news channel over the phone that they had found the body of a man killed in the landslides, and it took them two and a half hours to recover him on Sunday evening, which left them stranded in the area. Official sources said the body was then airlifted by them.

"We are very safe," the group member said, adding that the Thunderbolt team of the Kerala Police is expected to reach them soon.
