These digital address codes will be used to provide e-locations and would be further linked to other information, such as property title and ownership, property tax records, information on utilities like electricity, water and gas, reported The Times of India.
For example, the digital identity XYO24DQ will be an e-enabled address and can be alternatively used to the existing postal address.

Currently, the pilot project will begin for two postal pin codes in Delhi and Noida. Subsequently, there will be an expansion across the nation.
MapmyIndia, a private mapping company is handling the project for the postal department.
A letter sent to MapmyIndia by additional director-general (mail operations) Abhishek Kumar Singh reads,"The results of the proof of concept may be utilised by the department towards developing a digital address format that would suit the purpose for a national-level project rollout," the TOI report adds.
The private mapping company has said that it has included over 2 crore e Locs of individuals, businesses and government set-ups and it has collaborated with Isro and its national satellite imagery service 'Bhuvan' for better service.
