On December 24, the Sports Ministry suspended the WFI body for making a "hasty announcement" of organising the U-15 and U-20 nationals "without following due procedure and not giving sufficient notice to wrestlers" for preparations.
Former Wrestling Federation of India chief and Bharatiya Janata Party leader Brij Bhushan Singh addressed the media on Sunday after the Sports Ministry suspended the WFI body led by his alleged close aide. Brij Bhushan Singh said that Sanjay Singh is not his relative.
Earlier this year Brij Bhushan faced sexual harassment charges by several female wrestlers and he was removed from his post as the chief of WFI. Sanjay Singh's appointment as the new chief brought controversy concerning his relationship with Brij Bhushan.

Brij Bhushan reportedly said, "WFI elections were held on SC directions. Further, Sanjay Singh is not my relative."
He further added, "To resume the sports activities and not waste a year of young wrestlers, it was decided to conduct the games in Nandini Nagar. Now, I do not have anything to do with wrestling and have to look into the Lok Sabha polls that are approaching."
"Whatever decision has to be taken will be taken by the new federation," he said.
Wrestler Sakshi Malik on Sunday said, "I have not seen the report yet, and I will issue a remark only after consulting my team," about the WFI being suspended.
