Congress leader Rahul Gandhi's Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra entered West Bengal on Thursday, and he took a conciliatory tone as he expressed the unity of the INDIA bloc, stating that INDIA bloc will fight 'anyay' together.
'INDIA formation is going to fight 'anyay' (injustice) together,' Rahul Gandhi told a gathering amid loud cheers in West Bengal.
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi's Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra entered West Bengal on Thursday, and he took a conciliatory tone as he expressed the unity of the INDIA bloc, stating that INDIA bloc will fight 'anyay' together.
This statement followed a vow by senior opposition leader Mamata Banerjee that she would fight the Lok Sabha polls alone in the state.
"I am happy to have come to West Bengal. We have come here to listen to you and stand with you... BJP-RSS are spreading hatred, violence and injustice. So, INDIA formation is going to fight 'anyay' (injustice) together," Rahul Gandhi told a gathering amid loud cheers in Bengal.
Expressing satisfaction with the warm welcome in the eastern state, Rahul Gandhi said that he was "very happy" about it.
The Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra entered Bengal after concluding its journey in Assam, passing through Golakganj in the northeastern state before reaching Cooch Behar. Rahul Gandhi, having spent the night in Gauripur, Assam, boarded a sports utility vehicle to Golakganj and then a bus.
The journey drew a massive crowd eager to glimpse the former Congress president. However, it faced police action in Assam, leading to an FIR lodged against Rahul Gandhi, the Congress MP.
Mamata Banerjee said on Wednesday that she has "always said" she will fight alone in Bengal.
"I had no discussions with the Congress party. I have always said that in Bengal, we will fight alone. I am not concerned about what will be done in the country but we are a secular party and in Bengal, we will alone defeat BJP. I am a part of the INDIA alliance. Rahul Gandhi's Nyay Yatra is passing through our state but we have not been informed about it...," Mamata Banerjee said.
In the 2019 elections, the TMC bagged 22 seats, Congress won two, and the BJP secured 18 in the state.
