Six workers tragically lost their lives and one remains missing after an under-construction house collapsed in Ooty, Tamil Nadu.
Tragedy struck in Nilgiris district as six women construction workers lost their lives on Wednesday when they were buried under sand and rubble at a construction site. The incident occurred during the demolition of a compound wall in Lovedale, where 17 workers were engaged in removing sand.
A nearby building collapsed, resulting in heaps of sand and rubble falling on them. Ten laborers were completely buried in the unfortunate incident.
Quick response from the Fire and Rescue Services Department, alerted by the public, led to the rescue operation. Fire personnel worked tirelessly to bring the workers out from the debris.
Unfortunately, six workers could not survive, and four others, including two women, sustained injuries. The injured workers are currently receiving treatment at a local hospital.
Chief Minister M K Stalin expressed condolences for the six workers who lost their lives and directed authorities to ensure the best medical treatment for the injured workers at the Udhagamandalam (Ooty) Government Medical College Hospital.
In a further gesture of support, the Chief Minister announced a solatium of Rs two lakh for the families of each deceased worker and Rs 50,000 for each injured laborer. The community mourns the loss while efforts continue to provide care and assistance to those affected by this tragic incident.
