The bankers of China entice the world with business deals. The People's LiberationArmy (pla) expands its influence through subversion, insurrection, illegal arms andnarcotics. The pla is a law unto itself. It has 15,000 commercial firms under its directcontrol. It ignored President Jiang Zemin's order to quit business.
The Falun Gong, a non-political spiritual group, is banned in China. Its followers aremercilessly thrown into Beijing jails. But Falun Gong followers hold democratic protestsin Hong Kong. Talk of the Tiananmen massacre is suppressed in China. Public demonstrationsin the memory of its martyrs are held in Hong Kong.
This dual approach brings China rich dividends. Starry-eyed visitors return from Chinawith glowing accounts. They hold up China as a role model of progress. Simultaneously, theinsurgents in Nepal, India's northeast, Bihar and Andhra get arms, money and trainingthrough Chinese conduits.
The Indian Left is pathetic. The Left parties rave against foreign investment in India.They overlook the twentyfold foreign investment in China. Over 40 per cent of Chineseindustry is owned by foreigners. The Left passionately campaigns for trade union rightsand human rights in India. It ignores their suppression in China. The Left calls rsselements criminal. It's silent about China's overtures to the same rss elements.
China is the only big power patronising the Taliban. It helped the Taliban set up itscommunication system. At the same time, it pretends to fear Islamist terrorism. Thereby itdraws close to Central Asian states threatened by terrorism. Under the garb of fightingterrorism, China seeks the rich energy reserves of Central Asia.
If China is two-headed, a power struggle will erupt in Beijing sooner rather thanlater. China will become either democratic or split through civil war. If China istwo-faced, the world, and especially South Asia, had better watch out. Its strategy thenis diabolical.
China must win power,
