Who cares for the Constitution? The important thing is that our system is working. People say we have no governance. They are wrong. Don't Supreme Court orders govern all facets of our daily life? Purists complain that the Supreme Court is encroaching on the turf of ministers. But if judges govern, why complain? The ministers don't. They use their time to look after the nation's business. They play the stock market and clinch business deals. Do businessmen resent this? Not at all. Businessmen are busy running politics. If it weren't for the Ambanis, Tatas and Birlas, politics would cease. But for Amar Singh, Vijay Mallya and others, political parties would collapse.

When not doing business, MPs rush in and out of the well in Parliament. After that they collect their allowances and retire to their government houses. But if Parliament does not function, to whom is the government answerable? Don't worry. Last week the PM promised rss leaders that the cabinet would not act without first getting rss clearance.

With a written Constitution and an unwritten system, will democracy survive? Of course it will. The President keeps busy lecturing children. When they grow up, they'll know how to operate our unique system.

True, our administration has collapsed. Our police has become criminal and corrupt. It can't handle law and order. Not to worry. The vhp and Bajrang Dal not only look after law and order, they make sure that society maintains the right kind of lifestyle. They keep a watch on what films people see, what clothes they wear, and what kind of art they produce.

Some critics complain. If religious leaders look after law and order, who looks after religion? After all, people do need religion. But that's the whole beauty of our system. Ever since it evolved, the nation has become more religious than ever before. Now people daily pray to God that they may live to see tomorrow.
