In Residence

The best kakori kebabs in town.

Ours must have been the third or the fourth house built in Golf Links. The land wasbought by my father-in-law for apparently Rs 25,000 and the house built for alakh-and-a-half. What I like most about the area is its proximity to the large, green golfcourse, from where it takes its name. Golf Links is also very central. When my childrenwere young, they could go for riding to the President’s Polo Grounds or swim atTalkatora, go to the zoo and the rail museum. Even their school, Modern, was an easycommute. Even now, we can go for a lecture at the iic or a film at the Habitat Centrewithout advance planning.
Khan Market, with its six good bookshops, is next door. So is Nizamuddin. The dargah thereis one of my favourite places and I love listening to the qawwalis there, particularlyduring the Urs. ‘Aap ki Khatir’ serves the best kakori kebabs in town. LodhiGardens is nearby.

What I do not like about Golf Links is that our road and pavements are changing for theworse. The main road was a single carriage way earlier, with the other side reserved forparking. Now, the other side has become part of a dual way. This increased traffic on theroad has become fast. Fatal and near-fatal accidents keep occurring regularly. Also, thegolf club has now arbitrarily raised its wall, depriving the residents of the verdantview.
