2. If rightly used, SFX can emerge as the protagonist of a film. High technology can enable directors to dispense with the hierarchical system where some actors’ fees form 90 per cent of a film’s budget. So, some directors are doing away with the stars. I visualise the day the SFX guy will be the hero. Imagination is something that has always been there in our folk, mythic and puranic traditions. Vittalacharya in the 1950s was a visionary SFX man. George Lucas is only a sophisticated version of Vittalacharya. A classic like Maya Bazaar redone with the latest technology can be mind-blowing.
