BSF director general Rakesh Asthana, a 1984-batch IPS officer of Gujarat cadre, was appointed commissioner of Delhi Police. Asthana was CBI special director in 2018 when he was engaged in a spat with the then director Alok Verma, who accused him of corruption. Both were removed from the agency and later Asthana was cleared of the bribery charges later.

At least nine tourists, including four from Rajasthan, were killed in a rockslide in Himachal Pradesh’s Kinnaur district on July 25. The tourists were on the way from Sangla to Chitkul, 250 km from Shimla, when the boulders fell on their vehicle, killing nine on the spot. A video showed massive boulders sliding off a hill, damaging a Bailey bridge and a portion of the highway.

Tunisia, which ignited the Arab Spring in 2011 when protests led to the overthrow of its longtime autocratic leader, descended into chaos following nationwide protests over the young democracy’s economic troubles and the government’s handling of the coronavirus crisis. President Kais Saied suspended the legislature and fired the PM following the protests.
