In the land of milk and honey, the fly on the wall is never far away. Two months after the ‘honey trap’ scandal rocked the wobbly seats of power in Madhya Pradesh, aftershocks—new ‘leaks’ and revelations—continue to embarrass wheeler-dealers. All this when the special investigations team probing the scandal has officially revealed little on how far its inquiry has progressed. The latest sting is a video purportedly showing an inebriated Laxmikant Sharma, a former BJP minister and Vyapam scam-accused, with Shweta Jain, the alleged queen of the honey trap ring. Sharma can be heard sharing sleazy gossip regarding RSS workers and boasting about the “dirty secrets” of the BJP that he is privy to.

The clip was leaked to a section of the local media a fortnight before the convening of the winter session of the MP assembly. The consensus in political circles now seems to be that leaks putting the BJP in an embarrassing spot could continue to surface before all future sessions of the assembly to prevent the saffron party from trying to topple the Congress. At this rate, the Kamal Nath government’s honeymoon phase might last for a long, long time.
