Mumbai is insomniatic, never sleeps but for the 90 minutes when the suburban trains take a break in the wee hours. Mumbai is 24x7 but its shops, restaurants and bars have a nightly curfew—a time to call it a night. But wait, when you have a 29-year-old as your tourism minister, it could be open sesame. Aaditya Thackeray has pitched that shops, malls and eateries in non-residential areas of Mumbai will have the option of remaining open through the night, and day, from this Republic Day. He cited London’s nightlife, an economy of £5 billion, Indore’s Sarafa market and Ahmedabad city to endorse his stand.
