Actor Prakash Raj today took to Twitter to take a jibe at junior education minister Satyapal Singh who faced flak for claiming Darwin’s evolution theory was wrong as no one had seen ape evolving into man.
“Our ancestors have not seen ape evolving in to man” says minister. But dear sir,..can you deny that we are witnessing..the reverse....man evolving into ape by digging the past and trying to take us back into STONE AGE (sic),” said Prakash Raj, who has been openly locking horns with BJP leaders recently.
Earlier, Satyapal Singh, the minister of state for human resource development, had said, "Our ancestors haven't mentioned anywhere that they ever saw an ape turning into a human being," adding, "Darwin's theory (of evolution of humans) is scientifically wrong. It needs to change in school and college curriculum. Ever since humans came to Earth, they have always been humans.”
Reacting to it, Indian scientists on Sunday issued a joint statement." Evolutionary theory, to which Darwin made seminal contributions, is well established. There is no scientific dispute about the basic facts of evolution. This is a scientific theory, and one that has made many predictions that have been repeatedly confirmed by experiments and observation," they said.
The scientists also said that it would be a "retrograde step" to remove the teaching of the theory of evolution from school and college curricula or to "dilute" this by offering non-scientific explanations or myths.
