Metals: Appetite For Destruction
The Indian Institute for Environmental Medicine checked several branded and unbranded ayurvedic remedies for harmful metals. Several were present in dangerous levels. Their alarming discoveries:
Arsenic+
Typically present in: Urinary and prostate drugs
Effect: Destroys stomach lining, collects in the liver
Damage: Skin rashes, vomiting of blood, liver damage, anaemia and fibrosis
Copper+
Typically present in: Tonics, blood purifiers and diabetic cures
Effect: Deposits in the liver
Damage: Liver malfunction/damage; early signs are sluggishness, tiredness
Mercury+
Typically present in: Epilepsy, insomnia and ulcer remedies
Effect: Deposits evenly in the body
Damage: Gastro-intestinal problems; most damage seen to the liver
Cadmium+
Typically present in: Stress remedies, purifiers
Effect: Affects respiratory systems, accumulates in the kidneys
Damage: Respiratory damage, gastro-intestinal, kidney problems
