On Tuesday, Kiran Ahuja, and her sister Shilpa, 28, were surrounded by 20 members of the society, who brutally attacked them for feeding a female stray dog, the report added.
"They tore our clothes and beat us. Around 20 people were in a circle around us, thrashing us. We had to run for our lives," Kiran was quoted as saying.
Kiran alleged that she and her sisters had received several threats from the residents for feeding a stray canine inside the building premises. Things got worse when the female dog gave birth to five pups.
“I saw a society resident beating the female dog and when I tried to stop him, he called his family and other residents who began abusing and slapping me,” Kiran told Mid-Day. “I called my sister for help, but the residents allegedly assaulted her too,” Kiran added.
“An FIR was filed against accused resident Rustom Patel, his wife Rabia Patel, his son Riyaz and a fourth accused, Mid-Day quoted senior police inspector Uday Rajeshirke, as saying.
They accused resident and his family have been charged with-- Section 354 (molestation), 452 (house-trespass), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 504 (intentional insult), 506 (criminal intimidation), 143 (unlawful assembly), 147 (rioting) and 149 of the IPC.
Earlier this year, a 30-year-old man was thrashed for trying to save a stray dog from group of men in Kolkata. On April 15, a Chennai banker was beaten mercilessly for feeding stray dogs.
