- Nine per cent of couples have sexual intercourse before they marry
- Holding hands is the most common sexual expression before marriage, followed by kissing
- Kissing before the wedding is highest in Ahmedabad (60 per cent)
Necking and petting are okay but few have intercourse before they marry
No longer is a photograph introduction enough before wedlock. Arranged marriage or otherwise, 50 per cent couples meet each other privately before deciding to tie the knot. Madras, for instance, has the highest number of couples meeting each other in private (64 per cent). While only 9 per cent actually have intercourse and not more than 15 per cent stimulate their partners’ genitals, about 60 per cent do have some physical contact. Most hold hands (44 per cent), many kiss (39 per cent) and 21 per cent embrace each other. This sexual experiment before marriage is reflected uniformly in each of the eight centres surveyed but is most evident in Delhi, Bombay, Calcutta and Madras. Interestingly, the survey reveals that Ahmedabad has 60 per cent of to-be-married couples kissing each other—more than all other centres.
