The moment happened in the 19th over, when Afghanistan produced a moment of magic. On the third ball of the over, Rashid Khan ran out Colin Ackermann on 29 with a direct throw to the keeper. On the very next ball, Edwards ran down the pitch and couldn't spot the ball as wicket-keeper Ikram Ailkhil grabbed the ball and lifted the bails off the stumps. Edwards was out on the very first ball and registered a golden duck.

Earlier, Netherlands had won the toss and opted to bat on a slow Ekana pitch in Lucknow. Afghanistan brought in Noor Ahmad in place of Naveen Ul Haq, while Netherlands made three changes, replacing opener Vikramjit Singh with Wesley Barresi while Roelof van der Merwe and Saqib Zulfiqar also made it to the playing XI.
