Afghanistan A defeated Bangladesh A by 4 wickets in their ACC T20 Emerging Teams Asia Cup 2024 match on Sunday, October 20 at the Al Amerat Cricket Ground (Ministry Turf 1), Al Amerat on Sunday. (Match Highlights)
The hero of the Afghan Abdalyans' victory was undoubtedly Sediqullah Atal. He singlehandedly clinched the win, scoring a blistering 95 off 55 balls. In a nail-biting finish, needing 6 runs off the last 6 balls, he struck a stunning six, sealing the game and asserting his dominance over the Bangla Tigers' emerging stars.
Winning the toss, Afghanistan captain Darwish Rasooli chose to field first, a decision that initially seemed questionable. The Bangladeshi star Parvez Emon kicked off the innings with a barrage of sixes and fours, scoring 54 off 32 balls before being dismissed by Qais Ahmad.
Later, Towhid Hridoy stabilized their innings with a solid 42 off 31 balls, while Shamim Hossain added an explosive 38 off just 24 deliveries, helping Bangladesh A post a total of 164/4.
When Afghanistan began their chase, Sediqullah Atal and Zubairullah Akbari opened the batting, with Atal remaining unbeaten until the end.
Aliss Al Islam and Ripon Mondol struck early, putting pressure on the Abdalyans' batting lineup.
Captain Darwish departed early, scoring just 5 runs off 4 balls, leaving the Afghan Abdalyans at 52/2 at the conclusion of the powerplay.
Afghanistan faced an uphill battle, needing 71 runs off 42 balls, and their struggles continued as Shahidullah fell in the 13th over, bowled out by Abu Hider for 19 runs off 22 balls.
In the face of adversity, Sediqullah Atal rose to the occasion, becoming a one-man army as he led his team towards a thrilling victory, hitting a total of 9 fours and 5 sixes, while Afghanistan A lost 6 wickets. He earned the Player of The Match honour.
With this win, Abdalyans now go on top of Group A with 4 points from two matches in ACC Men's Emerging T20 Asia Cup 2024 standings.
Afghanistan and Bangladesh both entered the clash on a high, coming off opening match victories--Afghanistan defeating Sri Lanka by 11 runs and Bangladesh overcoming Hong Kong by 5 wickets. However, one team was destined to break their winning streak, and unfortunately that team turned out to be Bangladesh A today.
Bangladesh A: 164/4 (20.0)
Afghanistan A: 165/6 (19.1)
