Bangladesh won the toss and opted to bat first against South Africa in the first Test starting today (Monday, October 21) in Dhaka. The Proteas are in Bangladesh for a two-match Test series -- part of the ongoing ICC World Test Championship (WTC) 2023-25 cycle. The second match in Chattogram is scheduled for October 29 to November 2. As things stand, South Africa and Bangladesh are 6th and 7th, respectively, in the WTC table. India, who lost a home Test to New Zealand for the first time in 36 years, still lead the pack ahead of Australia and Sri Lanka. The Kiwis are fourth, ahead of England. Bangladesh, Pakistan and the West Indies make up this exclusive, nine-team affair which will decide the world Test champions next year with the Lord's final, to be contested by the two top teams.
