Kolkata Knight Riders have won the toss and have opted to bat.
Shubman Gill: We wanted to bowl first, to be honest. There might be some dew around. Out batting collapsed in the middle in the last match. It should have been a comfortable chase otherwise. It's all about doing the simple things right. That always we talk about in team meetings. We are playing with the same team.
Ajinkya Rahane: Looking to bat first, want our batters to bat freely. We just want to turn it around, so batting first is a good option. If you are doing well, people will take well, otherwise they will critise. T20 format is all about momentum. One change, Seifert comes in for Allen.
Here we go, game on in Ahmedabad! The noise builds as Kolkata Knight Riders send out Tim Seifert and Ajinkya Rahane to kick things off. Seifert takes first strike, a quick look around, a tap of the bat, he’s ready.
From the other end, it’s Mohammed Siraj with the new ball, charging in with that familiar intensity. Field set, energy high, first over coming up, and you can already feel there’s something brewing.
Oh wow, early drama and it’s a massive one!
Ajinkya Rahane barely had time to settle, and he’s already on his way back! First ball, a probing fuller delivery just outside off from Mohammed Siraj, and Rahane goes poking at it, no real conviction, just a tentative push… and up it goes!
Hanging in the Ahmedabad night sky for what feels like forever before mid-on settles under it and completes a straightforward catch. Gone for a golden duck.
What a start for Gujarat Titans, Siraj is fired up, teammates swarm him, and Kolkata Knight Riders are rocked right away.
A nightmare start continues for Kolkata Knight Riders as Kagiso Rabada strikes again. He bangs in a back-of-a-length delivery outside off, Angkrish Raghuvanshi goes chasing, and all he manages is a thick outside edge through to the keeper. Two early wickets down, and Gujarat Titans are firmly on top.
Drama in the middle and Cameron Green has a lifeline! Mohammed Siraj bangs it in short and quick on the leg side, Green looks to pull but is beaten completely, initially given out caught behind. Up goes the review straight away, and UltraEdge shows no spike at all. No bat involved, decision overturned, and Green survives a big scare for Kolkata Knight Riders.
A loud shout but nothing doing for Gujarat Titans here. Prasidh Krishna angles one in on a length, it nips back and thuds into Rovman Powell’s pads, and up go the appeals instantly.
The umpire isn’t interested though, impact looked a bit high and it was sliding down leg as well. After a quick chat, they wisely decide against the review, and Kolkata Knight Riders get away with one.
Pressure release for Kolkata Knight Riders as Rovman Powell takes on Rashid Khan straight away. First ball he faces from the leg-spinner, and Powell doesn’t hold back, gets onto it and sends it racing away to the boundary. Much-needed statement shot after the early wickets.
Kolkata Knight Riders finish the over strongly as Cameron Green joins the act against Rashid Khan. A short one from the leg-spinner, Green rocks back quickly and pulls it cleanly through deep mid-wicket for four, capping off a costly over that goes for 16 runs. A strong response after early setbacks, with momentum starting to swing back.
Kolkata Knight Riders find some stability as Cameron Green brings up a well-paced fifty. Ashok Sharma drops it into the pads with a slower one, Green works it neatly through the leg side and comes back for two to reach the milestone. A composed knock under pressure, acknowledged with applause from the dugout as KKR rebuild after the early jolts.
Kolkata Knight Riders get another big slice of luck as Cameron Green survives a straightforward drop. Rashid Khan tosses it up and Green goes for the slog sweep, but only gets a top edge towards deep mid-wicket.
It should have been taken, with Washington getting both hands on it, but he spills a sitter and the ball rolls into the rope for four. A massive reprieve, and Green continues to ride his luck.
Kolkata Knight Riders lose another wicket as Prasidh Krishna delivers in the middle overs once again. He goes back of a length, angles it across Anukul Roy, who stays rooted and looks to drive through the line but only manages a thin outside edge.
Behind the stumps, Jos Buttler makes no mistake with a clean take. Anukul departs for 9, and GT get a much-needed breakthrough just when KKR were trying to rebuild.
Kolkata Knight Riders lose another as Ashok Sharma gets the breakthrough with a clever slower ball. At 105.9 kph, it grips and deceives Ramandeep Singh completely as he goes too early on the big hit and ends up slicing it towards wide long-on.
Mohammed Siraj settles under it and completes a safe reverse-cupped catch. Ramandeep departs for a quick 17, and KKR are now seven down with still 21 balls remaining, slipping further into trouble.
Kolkata Knight Riders are in complete disarray now as Mohammed Siraj strikes again. A full delivery angled across at 138.2 kph, Sunil Narine clears the front leg looking to go big but only manages to slice it high over backward point.
Glenn Phillips reads it perfectly, moves across from short third and completes a calm catch. Narine falls for a duck, and with wickets falling in a heap, KKR’s innings is rapidly unravelling.
Kolkata Knight Riders are bowled out for 180, finishing on a disappointing note after a promising start. Rashid Khan wrapped up the innings superbly, conceding just six runs in the final over while also removing Cameron Green on the last delivery.
Green top-scored with a fighting 79 off 55 balls, including seven fours and four sixes, but lacked support as wickets fell around him.
Chase begins under the lights as Gujarat Titans send out Sai Sudharsan and Shubman Gill to start the pursuit of 180. Sai Sudharsan takes strike, with Vaibhav Arora steaming in to open the bowling for Kolkata Knight Riders.
Early movement expected, but GT have their most reliable pair at the crease right from ball one, setting the tone for what should be a controlled chase.
Gujarat Titans open their chase with intent as Shubman Gill announces himself early. Vaibhav Arora goes full and gets it to shape back in towards off stump, but Gill leans into it and absolutely smokes the drive on the rise, piercing the gap between cover and mid-off for four. A clean, confident statement shot to get the chase rolling.
Gujarat Titans keep the momentum flowing as Shubman Gill shifts gears early in the chase. Anukul Roy drops it on a good length, but Gill reads it perfectly, steps out, meets it clean, and lofts it effortlessly over extra-cover for a flat six. Pure timing, no fuss, and GT are already looking comfortable in the pursuit.
Gujarat Titans get a bit of luck there as Shubman Gill survives a nervy moment against Vaibhav Arora. The ball is short and angled down leg, Gill goes for the pull but only manages a thick inside edge onto the thigh pad.
It drops just short of a diving effort at short fine leg from Kartik Tyagi, with the fielders reacting instantly but unable to get there. A let-off for GT early in the chase.
The powerplay has come to an end and it has been a good start from the Gujarat Titans as they reach the 90-run mark by the 8th over with skipper Shubman Gill now just 4 runs away from another half-century.
Jos Buttler falls for Varun Chakaravarthy once again and the Englishman's disappointment against the Indian leg-spinner continues. It's the 7th Buttler became Varun's scalp in the Indian Premier League.
But the good news is that Shubman Gill has completed his fifty and GT just one partnership away from a victory. KKR need a few more wickets.
Washington Sundar becomes Varun Chakaravarthy's 2nd wicket of the night and it's an easy catch from Kartik Tyagi.
Kolkata Knight Riders strike at a crucial moment as Ramandeep Singh breaks through against Glenn Phillips. It’s a short delivery outside off that climbs on Phillips, he goes for the pull but only manages a mistimed hit straight to deep field, where Rinku Singh moves in from the rope and takes a safe catch.
Ramandeep celebrates with a roar and double fist-pump as Phillips departs for 19, keeping the contest finely poised.
Gujarat Titans beat Kolkata Knight Riders by five wickets in Ahmedabad after chasing down 181 in 19.4 overs, powered by a superb 86 off 50 from skipper Shubman Gill.
Earlier, KKR posted 180 in 20 overs, with Cameron Green top-scoring with 79 off 55 but lacking support as wickets fell regularly, while Kagiso Rabada and Mohammed Siraj did the early damage to trigger the collapse. Despite late wickets and brief tension after Gill’s dismissal, GT held their nerve to complete a comfortable win.
That’s a wrap. We will be back with another live blog. Until then, bye-bye.
