Fixture: Hyderabad Kingsmen vs Peshawar Zalm
Series: Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026
Venue: National Stadium, Karachi
Date: Wednesday, April 08, 2026
Time: 7:30 PM IST
The Karachi leg of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2026 is officially set to commence today, Wednesday, April 8, marking a critical mid-tournament shift from Lahore to the National Bank Stadium.
This phase is set to be the busiest part of the competition, with the next 13 group stage matches and the prestigious Qualifier scheduled to take place in the city.
The Hyderabad Kingsmen were involved in one of the most high-scoring thrillers in PSL history in their last match on April 1, 2026, but ultimately fell short against the Multan Sultans, losing by 6 wickets.
Despite posting a massive total, the Kingsmen's bowling once again proved to be their Achilles' heel as they remains winless in their debut season.
The debutants looked to have turned a corner with the bat. Maaz Sadaqat was explosive at the top, smashing 62 off just 26 balls, while veteran Sharjeel Khan made a memorable return to the league with an unbeaten 51 off 26 balls.
The chase was anchored by a phenomenal century from Sahibzada Farhan. His unbeaten 106 (including 8 sixes) was the backbone of the highest successful chase in the 2026 season so far.
Multan's overseas star Steve Smith provided the early impetus with a rapid 46 off 20 balls, ensuring the required rate never spiraled out of control.
Despite having a cushion of 225 runs, the Kingsmen bowlers struggled for discipline. Riley Meredith and Mohammad Ali were particularly expensive, both conceding runs at an economy of over 10, leaving captain Marnus Labuschagne with few tactical options.
Zalmi’s most recent scheduled fixture before today ended in frustration as their match against Islamabad United at the Gaddafi Stadium was abandoned without a ball bowled.
Persistent heavy rain and a wet outfield in Lahore made play impossible.
Both teams were awarded one point each. Despite the washout, the point helped Babar Azam’s side temporarily climb to the second spot in the standings at that time.
Peshawar Zalmi won the toss and have opted to bowl first.
Hyderabad Kingsmen: Saim Ayub, Maaz Sadaqat, Marnus Labuschagne(c), Usman Khan(w), Kusal Perera, Irfan Khan, Sharjeel Khan, Hassan Khan, Maheesh Theekshana, Hunain Shah, Mohammad Ali
Peshawar Zalmi: Mohammad Haris, Babar Azam(c), Kusal Mendis(w), Farhan Yousaf, Iftikhar Ahmed, Michael Bracewell, Abdul Samad, Aamer Jamal, Sufiyan Muqeem, Shoriful Islam, Nahid Rana
A big problem for Hyderabad Kingsmen has been they have lost wickets at the top. It wasn't the case this time as Saim Ayub and Maaz Sadaqat have both found some boundaries to get in rhythm and have provided their side a steady start. They will look to maximise the powerplay and get a boost.
Iftikhar Ahmed's arm has turned to golden today. He has picked four wickets in a span of two overs and scalped three wickets in one over. His first prey was Maaz Sadaqat, who got foxed and got holed out in the deep. In his second over, he gets the second opener Saim Ayub, trapping him to long on. In the same over he got Usman Khan to miscue a pull to the square leg. In the final ball of the over, he cleaned up Sharjeel Khan. Kingsmen in big trouble.
Kusal Perera and Marnus Labuschagne are at the crease for HYDK as they look to bail their team out of trouble. Kingsmen are four down and need a lift-off in the middle-overs with Zalmi bowlers piling up the pressure.
HYDK: 56-4 (6 Overs)
Kusal Perera and Marnus Labuschagne have forged a stable partnership that has crossed 50-runs. The Lankan-Aussie pair are looking to bring a sense of stability for the side but few wickets in the middle-overs could turn the momentum.
HYDK: 86-4 (10 Overs)
Perera and Labuschagne need to up the ante if they are to get towards a big score. Chasing at this stadium has been a cakewalk for most teams and Zalmi will know that very well. Anything above 200, will be a good score.
HYDK: 109-4 (13 Overs)
HYDK have lost their Australian superstar Marnus Labuschagne for 27(27) with Sufiyan Muqeem providing the breakthrough. Superb bowling this from Zalmi, who have applied the breaks just when it was required.
HYDK: 119-5 (15 Overs)
What a collapse this is from HYDK! Sufiyan Muqeem has derailed the Kingsmen innings with precision bowling. Labushagne's wicket has opened the floodgates with none of the batters looking to see out the 20 overs.
HYDK: 137-8 (17 Overs)
Sufiyan Muqeem starred with the ball, picking four wickets as Hyderabad Kingsmen were bowled out for 145 in 18.2 overs. HYDK were 116-5 but a sudden collapse in the middle-overs, set them towards a paltry total. Zalmi should be favourites from here on.
HYDK: 145 (18.2 Overs)
Mohammad Haris makes an early exit from the PSZ innings as they chase down 146 for victory. Maheesh Theekshana with the breakthrough for HYDK and it's the exact start that they craved for.
PSZ: 42/1 (5 Overs)
HYDK: 145 (18.2 Overs)
Babar Azam is still at the crease and with him there, PSZ will believe they can win. Eight wickets still in hand and Zalmi need to bat sensibly. As for HYDK, they need wickets and must apply the brakes.
PSZ: 78/2 (10 Overs)
HYDK: 145 (18.2 Overs)
PSZ have crossed 100 runs and need to bat sensibly as they chase down the paltry total of 146. They require another 40-plus runs and it should be a cakewalk for the Zalmi side especially with Babar at the crease.
PSZ: 101/2 (13 Overs)
HYDK: 145 (18.2 Overs)
All of a sudden, the game has become tight! Babar's wicket has allowed HYDK to get back in the game and swing the momentum. Zalmi will be dreading themselves if they blow up this run chase from this point onwards.
PSZ: 123/4 (16 Overs)
HYDK: 145 (18.2 Overs)
Wow! The game has really turned upside down in Lahore. PSZ, who were cruising at one point of time, find themselves five down. Superb comeback from HYDK.
PSZ: 125/5 (17 Overs)
HYDK: 145 (18.2 Overs)
Iftikhar Ahmed with a six in the final over to take Zalmi towards a famous win. Four wicket win in the end but not before they were on the end of a choke up after HYDK bowlers fought their way back in the contest. Babar Azam played a handy knock but HYDK could be thinking if they had batter full 20 overs, this match was within their grasp.
PSZ: 146/6 (20 Overs)
HYDK: 145 (18.2 Overs)
