Shubman Gill's hundred helped India pile on the pressure as well as misery over Bangladesh on the third day of the first Test. India set a mammoth 515-run target for the visitors.

Gill, 25, was dismissed for an eight-ball duck in the first innings, caught behind Hasan Mahmud. But the right-handed batter from Firozpur in Punjab applied himself and played a masterful knock in the second essay.

With Rishabh Pant adopting his usual approach, Shubman Gill paced his innings and let his flamboyant partner assume the attacking role. Gill reached his hundred in 161 balls with a single off Mehidy Hasan Miraz in the 60th over. And India declared their innings at 287/4 four overs later. Gill was unbeaten on 119 off 176 with the help of 10 fours and four sixes.

En route to his fourth Test hundred, in 46 innings (25 matches), Shubman Gill was involved in three crucial knocks -- 39 with Virat Kohli for the third wicket, 167-run with Pant for the fourth and an unbroken 53 with KL Rahul for the fifth.

Gill made his Test debut in 2020 against Australia at Melbourne Cricket Ground. He has so far scored 1492 runs at an average of 35.52 with four centuries and six fifties.
