New Zealand captain Tom Latham has won the toss and opted to bat first in Mumbai.
Rohit Sharma: We understand that we haven't played well in this series. Looks like a good pitch. Hopefully we can restrict them as quickly as possible. Our focus is on this Test match. Bumrah is not well, Siraj comes in for him.
Tom Latham: We are gonna have a bat. Looks a good surface, hopefully put a good total on the board. What we did in Bangalore was great, we had to switch quickly to Pune and nothing changes. A new opportunity this game. It's about adapting to the surface as quickly as possible. Santner has got a side strain. Ish Sodhi comes in. Henry is back for Southee.
India (Playing XI): Yashasvi Jaiswal, Rohit Sharma(c), Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, Rishabh Pant(w), Sarfaraz Khan, Ravindra Jadeja, Washington Sundar, Ravichandran Ashwin, Akash Deep, Mohammed Siraj
New Zealand (Playing XI): Tom Latham(c), Devon Conway, Will Young, Rachin Ravindra, Daryl Mitchell, Tom Blundell(w), Glenn Phillips, Ish Sodhi, Matt Henry, Ajaz Patel, William O'Rourke
UPDATE: Mr Jasprit Bumrah has not fully recovered from his viral illness. He was unavailable for selection for the third Test in Mumbai.
No Boom, Boom Bumrah at his 'home turf' Wankhede. Mohammed Siraj has a huge task of leading the IND pace attack. He has not been in the greatest of form with the ball of late.
NZ - 1/0
Akash Deep is still new to cricket whereas Mohammed Siraj's poor form hasn't helped and that's why the third Test day 1 session will be a testing one for Rohit Sharma. Kiwis have started off well and with the conditions still good for batting, IND have a great task up their sleeves in Mumbai.
NZ - 7/0
Akash Deep rewards Rohit Sharma, India with a huge wicket of Devon Conway as the Kiwi batter was trapped LBW. The on-field umpire raises his finger but Conway reviewed the decision. Unfortunately for him and the visiting team, the review went against him and India rejoice.
NZ - 15/1
If you look at this pitch, there's a little bit of moisture in it and hence the dark brownish colour. As you look at the other pitches in the square, you can see the difference in colour, it's slightly orangish. That's how this pitch will eventually become. It's about understanding what happens when moisture is there. There'll be a little bit of turn at the start and as the day progresses, it might get slightly better to bat on. But towards the end of the day's play and definitely tomorrow and as the game progresses, there'll be a lot more turn. If the team winning the toss, doesn't bat first, I'd be very surprised. In the last five Test matches, 84% of the wickets have been picked up by the spinners. There'll be a little bit of help for the fast bowlers as it always is in Mumbai. There is something in it for everybody. As the game progresses, it'll tilt towards the spinners. Days one and two will be better to bat on. As the game progresses, it's going to be hard work for the batters.
- said Murali Karthik and Dinesh Karthik earlier.
Ten overs into the match and we already have seen the Wankhede track assist spin, that too on the first day. Ravichandran Ashwin's ball turned sharply, as Will Young and Tom Latham watched that with amazement. Exciting day's play coming up.
NZ - 37/1
Ravichandran Ashwin and Washington Sundar are getting assistance from the Wankhede track but it seems the luck isn't on India's side at the moment. Rohit Sharma will be a frustrated man as the hosts look to snare wickets ahead of lunch.
NZ - 51/1
Washington Sundar is having a dream run with the ball and it has continued in Mumbai. The offie's ball draws Latham forward with the latter pushing for a defensive shot, only to see his stumps being dislodged. Rohit is pumped in the slips as India rejoice a key dismissal.
NZ - 59/2
The dangerous Rachin Ravindra is dismissed and it's all thanks to Washington Sundar. Similar delivery that he bowled to Tom Latham and Ravindra falls prey to the offie. Mumbai crowd and Team India celebrate as the hosts have their noses in front for the first time in this series.
NZ - 72/3
IND have bowled well today and despite the three wickets, the pitch is still good and the Kiwis will bank on Daryl Mitchell and Will Young to build on a partnership and take the game away from the hosts.
NZ - 85/3
It's lunch in Mumbai as India dominated the first few hours of the 3rd Test at the Wankhede. It was Washington Sundar yet again who took out the key batters including Tom Latham and Rachin Ravindra. The visitors have Will Young still at the crease but with the ball spinning, Ashwin and co will look to close out post-lunch.
NZ - 92/3
Despite the three wickets, India have been poor with their bowling especially the spinners. They have bowled as many as five no-balls as Kiwis crossed the 100-run barrier. Moreover, Will Young has reached his half-century.
NZ - 112/3
Will Young and Daryl Mitchell have frustrated the Indian team with their accurate defence and strokeplay at the crease. Indian spinners are unable to extract the amount of spin off the pitch and look flat out there. Could it be time soon for some reverse swing from Siraj and Akash Deep? Wait and watch.
NZ - 115/3
IND bowlers have bowled fairly well post-lunch as NZ batters found it tough to score freely. The temperature has not been kinder as well with the mercury rising in Mumbai on Diwali.
NZ - 131/3
The sweltering Mumbai heat isn't helping Rohit Sharma's side as they face a battle to dismiss the set batters at the crease. Will Young and Daryl Mitchell are unfazed by the spin quality up against them as they look to bat India out of the contest.
NZ - 134/3
Kiwis' set batter Will Young has been dismissed for a well-made 71 runs. The batter trudged forward to defence but the ball spun sharply and hit the edge and went straight into Rohit Sharma's hands. Ideal breakthrough for the hosts with Tea approaching.
NZ - 159/4
The Wankhede crowd are singing 'oh Ravi Jadeja' as the all-rounder reciprocates with another wicket in the over to put India back in the game. What a delivery that was! Spun and Tom Blundell had very minimal to do.
NZ - 159/5
Kiwi batter Daryl Mitchell is holding up the New Zealand innings despite five down in Wankhede. Well, this isn't the first time the all-rounder has turned up at the venue. Just last year, Mitchell cracked up 134 at the same venue albeit in ODI colours in the semi-final of the World Cup. Could there be another one on the cards?
NZ - 172-5
Daryl Mitchell got to his half-century as Kiwis look to consolidate their position at tea. Mitchell is tired but has looked resolute in his defence. What an innings this has been.
NZ - 183/5
Daryl Mitchell has played a brilliant knock of 60-plus off 113 deliveries and counting. The all-rounder has swept and reversed-swept to the Indian spinners, with the latter having no answers to his attack. What will IND think-tank come up in the next couple of hours?
NZ - 202/6
Before Tea, Ravi Shastri was asked on-air what will be India happy with restricting New Zealand at and he replied, somewhere around 225. The Kiwis have already crossed 200 runs and have four wickets in hand.
NZ - 205/6
Fifer for Ravindra Jadeja, who has bowled exceptionally well on this turning track at the Wankhede Stadium. Kiwis would have been ahead in this game if not for Jaddu's fine bowling today. He has kept India in this match alone.
NZ - 217/8
Ravindra Jadeja picked up his 13th fifer in Test career. What an effort this has been from the versatile player. If Ravichandran Ashwin has been kept quiet, then Jadeja has taken the onus of delivering the goods on the other end.
The Kiwis are all out for 235 as Washington Sundar picked up his fourth wicket of the innings. Ravindra Jadeja has a fiver. Daryl Mitchell (80) and Will Young (71) were the pick of the batters for the Kiwis in Mumbai. India's reply coming up shortly.
NZ - 235
Mumbai boys Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal are out in the middle to chase down Kiwis' 235 runs. What a few minutes of action coming right up.
IND - 0/0
NZ - 235
Indian skipper's rut does need to stop somewhere as he was dismissed for 18 runs in their first innings. Well bowled by Matt Henry, who seemed to have deceived the opener. Kiwis are happy but the Wankhede crowd stays silent.
IND - 25/1
NZ - 235
Rohit has managed to score 122 runs in his last 9 Test innings that includes Tests against Bangladesh as well. With BGT around the corner, this form will be of a concern for the Indian think-tank and Rohit himself.
Mere 12 overs to go in the day's play and one cannot doubt the entertainment it has served up. 11 wickets to go with some good stroke-play from Daryl Mitchell and Will Young, has really given the Wankhede crowd something to cheer on this Diwali.
IND - 35/1
NZ - 235
Shubman Gill whacked consecutive fours off Ajaz Patel as India look to get things back on track after the dismissal of Rohit Sharma. Gill and Yashasvi Jaiswal have stitched an important 30-runs plus partnership. India trail by 177 runs.
IND - 58/1
NZ - 235
Yashasvi Jaiswal, who has an ordinary series apart from his fiery 70-run odd innings in Pune, has been bowled by Ajaz Patel for 30 runs. A pre-meditated reverse sweep goes no where and Patel cleans him up. India's solid stand broken.
IND - 78/2
NZ - 235
Whitewash for Team India? Last 10 minutes has seen India lose 3 wickets in no time, and put the Kiwis on the front foot. As Ravi Shastri points out on-air, "India committing harakiri in the last 10 minutes." The hosts have lost a review and now lost Kohli to a run-out. The Wankhede crowd disperse as soon as OUT is signalled.
IND - 84/4
NZ - 235
