So, South Africa have won the toss and they will be bowling first. We will see Indian batters and the South African team stride out soon.
Mind you, South Africa are being led by Sane Luus while Indian captain is Harmanpreet Kaur.
India and South Africa did play a T20I series earlier this year. The series had three matches and both teams won one apiece. With one match producing no result, the series was tied at 1-1.
Here we go then. Both India and South Africa in their final warm-up fixture ahead of the women's T20 World Cup 2024. India batting first. Shafali Verma takes strike, Smriti Mandhana stands on the non-striker's end. Ayabonga Khaka begins with her medium pace.
Shafali Out For Duck!
Just the second ball of the match and Shafali Verma is gone. She has been bowled by Ayabonga Khaka. Brilliant start for South Africa.
Tight bowling from the South African women to start the match. Captain Harmanpreet Kaur has joined Smriti Mandhana in the middle but they have not been able to break free.
After 2 overs, India 7/1
First boundary for India
16th ball of the inning and India have finally got their first boundary. It is captain Harmanpreet Kaur who has managed to send the ball to the ropes.
After 3 overs, India 16/1
Harmanpreet Kaur falls
Second wicket falls for India and it is the skipper Harmanpreet Kaur who will have to make the long walk back to the pavillion. Ayabonga Khaka is yet again the wicket-taker and South Africa celebrate.
After 4 overs, India 20/2
Powerplay done and it is South Africa who would feel they have been the dominating in the first six overs. India have already lost their opener Shafali Verma and captain Harmanpreet Kaur. Smriti Mandhana is now at the crease with last match's star Jemimah Rodrigues.
After six overs, India 29/2
Finally a big over for India. 14 runs coming from the seventh over and both Mandhana and Jemimah getting boundaries. Much needed for India, will relieve a lot of pressure from the women in blue.
After 7 overs, India 43/2
Smriti Mandhana out!
Massive blow for India and a big big wicket for South Africa. It is the left-arm spinner Nonkululeko Mlaba who has sent back the Indian superstar and India continue to lose wicket. This small partnership has been broken and Mandhana walks back after a scratchy 21 from 22 balls. Richa Ghosh is the new woman in.
After 10 overs, India 63/3
Another one bites the dust. This time it is Jemimah Rodrigues and that means both the set batters will now have to follow the innings from the dugout. Jemimah departs after scoring a 26-ball 30 and India are in deep trouble now.
After 11 overs, India 69/4
India have been forced to go into the rebuilding phase again. Richa Ghosh currently in the middle with Deepti Sharma are trying to build a small partnership before they can take on the South African bowlers. A 30-run partnership so far between the two.
After 15 overs, India 97/4
First six of the match and it comes from the bat of Richa Ghosh. Finally, in the 16th over, India have got a maximum in this innings. Richa has sent Khaka over the fence and India will now look to keep up the same approach as the innings moves towards its conclusion.
After 16 overs, India 109/4
50-run partnership between Richa Ghosh and Deepti Sharma. A good measured stand from the duo to help India get into a decent position in the match.
After 18 overs, India 121/4
16 runs from the 19th over and India are now in a comfortable position thanks to this partnership between Richa and Deepti. Three boundaries in the 19th over two from Richa and the last one from Deepti and South African bowling under a bit of pressure here.
After 19 overs, India 137/4
Ayabonga Khaka gets five!
Three wickets from the final over and medium pacer Khaka has completed a five-wicket haul. Just seven off the final over from Khaka and India can not get the flourish they needed. Khaka dismissed Richa on the first ball and then got the wickets of Pooja Vastrakar and Shreyanka Patil on the third and fourth delivery to complete her fifer. Deepti remains stranded on one end with 35 and India finish on 144/7 in 20 overs.
So, Indian batting is done and they have set a 145-run target for the South Africans. Three thirties for India in this innings. Jemimah (30), Deepti (35 not out) and Richa (36) all chipped in to give India a respectable total after a shaky start. For South Africa, Ayabong Khaka stars with 25/5 in her four overs.
South African openers are out in the middle and we have Renuka Singh with the new ball. India need to defend 145.
Renuka begins with a maiden. Six dot balls to begin with. Laura Wolvaardt was the batter who chose not to take any unnecessary risks in the first over of the chase.
After 1 over, South Africa 0/0
A quiet powerplay for South Africa. Just 31 runs coming from the first six overs. Indian bowlers have been disciplined but that opening partnership of Tazmin Brits and Laura Wolvaardt has ensured that no wicket falls in this chase of 145.
After 6 overs, South Africa 31/0
Asha Shobhana strikes and India get the first wicket just five balls after the field restrictions end. Tazmin Brits is the first woman to depart for South Africa and India's discipline with the ball finally pays off. Brits goes for 22 from 25 balls.
After 7 overs, South Africa 37/1.
Anneke Bosch is gone and Deepti Sharma gets her first wicket of the night. Pressure is rising on South Africa. The runs were already not coming and now the wickets are going away too. India keeping things tight and under control. South Africa needs some big shots really soon.
After 10 overs, South Africa 55/2 (Target 145)
Laura Wolvaardt's stay ends. Massive wicket for India and South Africa continue to go behind in this warm-up fixture. Good length delivery from Shreyanka Patil, outside off and Wolvaardt fails to make any connection. The bails are dislodged and Wolvaardt departs for 29.
After 11 overs, South Africa 60/3 (Target 145)
Asha Sobhana gets another wicket!
South Africa are collapsing. Three wickets in last three overs and suddenly, India have taken control of the game. Asha Sobhana now sends back the opposition skipper Sane Luus who gets just three runs under her belt.
After 12 overs, South Africa 67/4 (Target 145)
Harmanpreet Kaur too joins the party. She gets a wicket as well and the match seems like done here. South Africa are looking totally out of place and now they have lost their fifth wicket. Nadine de Klerk is gone for 4.
After 16 overs, South Africa 85/5 (Target 145)
Now it is Shafali Verma who gets a wicket. Chloe Tryon who was trying to force things here is gone for 24. She has handed a catch to Jemimah Rodrigues and Shafali has her woman. South Africa are now totally out of this game.
After 17 overs, South Africa 98/6 (Target 145)
India win by 28 runs
The game is done and India have registered back-to-back wins in the warm-up games ahead of the Women's T20 World Cup. South Africa on the other hand have been handed consecutive defeats in their warm-up fixtures.
After 20 overs, South Africa 116/6 (Target 145)
Brief scores
India 144/8 (Richa Ghosh 36, Deepti Sharma 35; Ayabonga Khaka 25/5) beat South Africa (Laura Wolvaardt 29; Asha Shobana 21/2) by 26 runs.
Even as the Indian top order failed, the bowlers and the lower and middle order stood up to take India over the line. They will be really happy with this performance. They have now earned victories in both their warm-up matches. South Africa, on the other hand, go into the T20 World Cup with losses in both their warm-up fixtures.
India and South Africa both begin their T20 World Cups on October 4 but they are in different groups. India will be up against New Zealand while South Africa will face West Indies.
Fine then, we will take your leave. We will see you again at the Women's T20 World Cup that starts October 3. Till then good bye!
