The two month cricketing carnival finally came to a close as the Indian Premier League (IPL 2024) with the final as Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) defeated Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) by eight wickets in Chennai to lift their third crown. (More Cricket News)

The 17th edition saw some impressive numbers as the statisticians were kept busy with new records being set in the lucrative T20 league.

New faces, new rules and new records kept everyone on the hook as we take a look at the numbers that were recorded in the IPL 2024 season:

Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) defeated Sunrisers Hyderabad in the final to win their third IPL trophy (2012, 2014 and 2024) and are third behind Mumbai Indians (MI) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK), who have won more - five each.

Sunrisers Hyderabad's 113 all out in the 2024 IPL was the lowest total in a final, eclipsing CSK's 125/9 in the 2013 IPL final against Mumbai Indians that latter won.

Aussie left-arm quick Mitchell Starc is the first player to be named as the Player of the Match (twice) in the Playoffs in an IPL season. He was adjudged as the Player of the Match in both Qualifier 1 and the Final.

KKR's bowling prowess showed this season as they bowled out their IPL opponents six times - the most by any team in a single edition of the tournament. The previous best was by MI - in 2008 and 2019 at 4.

At 741 runs with an average of 61.75 and a strike rate of 154.70, RCB's Virat Kohli took the Orange Cap for this season of the IPL. As for the bowlers, Harshal Patel's 24 wickets in 14 matches handed him the Purple Cap at an average of almost 20.
