The Australian pair of David Warner and Mitch Marsh came out to open te innings for Delhi Capitals and Sam Curran opened the bowling attack for Punjab Kings. Marsh hit back-to-back fours but Curran made a comeback and gave just 10 runs from the first over.

Mitchell Marsh was thrashing every second delivery and when Arshdeep Singh continued his attack from the other end, he started with a six. Then Singh changed the side and came around the wicket. Marsh hit the ball back to the point at Rahul Chahar.

Rahul Chahar was introduced into the attack in the seventh over and after taking four singles Shai Hope hit one six and a four to finish the over with 14 runs from it.

Harshal Patel was introduced into the attack in the eighth over and David Warner welcomed him with a boundary. However, he bowled a bouncer and got rid of Warner by getting him caught behind.

Kagiso Rabada was brought back into the attack in the 11th over and Shai Hope smashed a brilliant six on the third delivery. Rabada struck back on the next delivery and got him caught by Harpreet Brar at covers.

Harshal Patel was brought back into the attack in the 13th over and delivered with the wicket of Rishabh Pant. Tristan Stubbs is the new batter at the crease.

Tristan Stubbs tried to go for a big shot but got caught by Shashank Singh in the deep.

Hrashal Patel came to bowl the final over and Impact Substitute player Abhishek Porel smashed him for 25 runs. He started with a four, then a massive six and then against two fours followed by another six.

Punjab Kings dominated most of the game but Delhi Capitals' Abhishek Porel played a crucial cameo in the end to take Delhi to a fighting total of 174 runs. Now, Punjab Kings need 175 runs off 120 balls to win the match.

Shikhar Dhawan and Jonny Bairstow opened the batting for Punjab Kings and Khaleel Ahmed opened the bowling attack for Delhi Capitals. Dhawan started with two boundaries and Bairstow ended the over with a couple of boundaries. 17 runs came off the first over.

Ishant Sharma continued his attack from the other end and bowled Shikhar Dhawan on the first delivery. Impact Substitute Prabhsimran Singh came to bat and got involved in a run-out which sent Bairstow back.

Prabhsimran Singh and Sam Curran have been successful in building a partnership after two blows in a single over off Ishant Sharma, who by the way is out of the ground now after some injury in his leg. Pravin Dubey is the substitute fielder.

I believe Ishant's injury was plainly visible on the pitch; we were already one bowler short due to our batting; Abishek Porel played great to provide those extra runs, but we were always one bowler short. At various points throughout the game, the lads did an excellent job of re-engaging us. I was worried (on his return), and there was some tension, but I eventually began to enjoy myself. No excuses, having a bowler short was never a good thing, but PKBS deserves praise for how they performed. He's new to Porel, only his third or fourth game, but the manner he batted was quite impressive; we look forward to seeing more from him as the season progresses.

It felt amazing, and I was glad to be on the ground. After the last IPL, I was a little concerned since I was playing such competitive cricket. [on the discussion during the innings break] I didn't talk to anyone at the time since I had a batting practice. The bowlers require their space, so we will talk tomorrow to learn and improve. We leaked a few more runs, and this is the opening match of the season, so tensions are high. I believe the pitch improved under the lights, and Sam batted brilliantly before Livi finished it off. I didn't know anything about records here; it's fresh territory.

Very happy. There is nothing better than starting the tournament on our new home field. They were, those two are world-class bowlers who have played a lot of cricket for India, but we knew if we could get deep, we would have a chance. Batting with my dear friend Livi at the other end was fantastic. At that point, I had to take those chances, and fortunately, luck was on my side. Under the lights, the wicket improved marginally; the ball was moving, but there was no spin or velocity. [on him bowling a single over] We have some wonderful choices this season and some nice acquisitions; perhaps in Bangalore things will be different, but most importantly, we won.
