RR Vs KKR, IPL 2024: Match Abandoned Due To Rain; Rajasthan Royals To Play Eliminator - As It Happened

Here are the highlights of match 70 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 match played at Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati on Sunday. Rajasthan Royals needed to win the match against Kolkata Knight Riders to finish in the top two in the points table. But the destiny had some other plans. It kept raining in the stadium and as a result, no play was possible. After waiting for more than three hours, the toss happened and KKR decided to field first in what was decided a seven-over-per-side match. But as the players were about to enter the ground, the rain came again. After waiting for a few more minutes, the Umpires called off the game. The pitch looks rock-hard and has a better sheen to it. The square boundaries are 61 and 62 metres respectively and the straight one is at 73 metres. Last year, RR scored 199 here batting first and DC could not chase that, so batting first could be helpful. A high-scoring match is on the cards. There is a bit of grass and some patches on the surface. The ball may come nicely on the bat.

Rain entered the party just before the toss, and ground staff covered the pitch and field. It is a slight drizzle.

SRH won the match by four wickets against the Punjab Kings in Hyderabad and now climbed to the second spot in the points table. Now, RR need to win this match anyhow to come to the second position.

If the match is abandoned due to rain or any other reason, one point each will be given to the teams and that would take SRH to the top two. SRH need to win the match if they wish to finish number two.

The match has been abandoned due to persistent rain. The toss happened but the rain came again and the Umpires decided to abandon the match without even a single ball bowled.

As things are clear now, Rajasthan Royals could not go up the points table and will have to play Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the Eliminator on Wednesday, 22 May 2024.

Kolkata Knight Riders finished as table toppers and SRH at the second spot. Both teams will play each other in the Qualifier 1 on Tuesday, 21 May 2024. The winner will enter the coveted final and the loser will face the winner of Eliminator in Qualifier 2 on Friday, 24 May 2024.
