Big game for both the sides. The winner advances, the loser goes home.
Yashodha Lanka and Lahiru Udara, the two Sri Lankan openers, are on the pitch and up against them is Ripon Mondol with the new ball. Here we go!
Just four runs from the first over of Ripon Mondol, all from the bat of Yashodha Lanka. Good start by Mondol and Abu Hyder Roni will now take the new ball from the other end with his left-arm pace.
SL-A 4/0 (1)
First wicket for Bangladesh A and it is Yashodha Lanka who will go back to the pavillion on the final ball of the fifth over after scoring 23(21). Sri Lanka have made a slow start. The opening partnership put up 40 runs but took 30 balls for it and Bangladesh A will not be disappointed with that.
SL-A 40/1 (5)
Big wicket for Bangladesh A! Lahiru Udara was flying so far but now he will have to go back. Rejaur Rahman Raja strikes off his very first ball and Udara who was single-handedly keeping Sri Lanka A's run rate at a decent level is now gone. Udara is removed for 35(21) but it was an entertaining innings from him.
SL-A 67/2 (10)
Sri Lanka trying to push the run rate here but Bangladesh have not allowed too many boundaries to flow. Mahfuzur Rahman Rabby has finished his spell and given away just 14 runs with a wicket as well. Sahan Arachchige and Pawan Rathnayake currently on the crease.
SL-A 113/3 (15)
Pawan Rathnayake is keeping Sri Lanka A's run rate healthy but he will need more support from the other end if the Lankans really want to push Bangladesh A out of this game.
SL-A 131/3 (17)
Pawan Rathnayake's innings ends! He had a good time and he goes back to the pavillion after ensuring Sri Lanka A will have a decent total on board. Rathanayake gets 42 from 26 balls.
SL-A 154/4 (19)
Just seven off the final over from Ripon Mondol and Bangladesh would be happy with that. Two wickets for Mondol alongside a run out in the final over and Sri Lanka A would not get that final flourish which could have taken them past 170. They remain at just 161/7 in 20 overs.
BAN-A need 162 to runs to win
Sri Lanka A have a decent score on board. Lahiru Udara and Pawan Rathnayake were the two Sri Lankans who managed to push that run rate up in an otherwise slowish innings. Ripon Mondol and Rejaur Rahman Raja get two wickets each for Bangladesh A.
Parvez Hossain Emon and Saif Hassan are the two Bangladesh A openers who will begin the innings. Nimesh Vimukthi has the new ball.
Target for BAN-A: 162
13 from the first over! Bangladesh A openers wasting no time to get going. Parvez Hossain Emon slams a six on the fourth ball of the over and in total Bangladesh A get 13 from the first six balls.
BAN-A 13/0 (1)
Parvez Hossain Emon is on fire and he is taking the Sri Lankan bowlers to the cleaners. Sahan Arachchige, the off-spinner, comes to the attack in the third over and is taken for 22 runs. A six and two fours for Emon and a maxiumum for Saif Hassan too. Bangladesh A have taken an early lead in this game here.
BAN-A 38/0 (3) need 124 runs from 17 overs.
First wicket for Sri Lanka A and the dangerman Parvez Hossain Emon has been sent back. Emon goes back for 24 from just 10 balls and he would think he has done his job. Eshan Malinga is the wicket-taker.
BAN-A 42/1 (4) need 120 runs from 16 overs.
Runs continue to flow for Bangladesh here. Parvez Hossain Emon has gone but Saif Hassan has taken over now. A six each in the last couple of overs in the powerplay and Bangladesh are definitely in the driver's seat now.
BAN-A 59/1 (6)
19 balls since the last boundary for Bangladesh A. A good spell of bowling from the Sri Lankan bowlers and they have pulled things back nicely after the initial outburst from Bangladeshi openers. Saif Hassan has gone back retired hurt and Mohammad Naim has been dismissed. Towhid Hridoy and Akbar Ali are currently in the middle. Sri Lanka will need a few more quite overs.
BAN-A 72/2 (9) need 90 from 11 overs
Akbar Ali ends the boundary drought after 21 balls with a six but just two balls later, Dushan Hemantha gets Ali. Sri Lanka A are getting back into the match and Bangladesh losing plot really quickly.
BAN-A 80/3 (10) Need 82 From 10 Overs
Another wicket for Sri Lanka A and yet again it is Dushan Hemantha with the strike. Shamim Hossain is caught by Nipun Ransika and he departs for 4(5). Hemantha gets his second scalp of the day and yet again the pressure goes back on Bangladesh A. Towhid Hridoy is still there and Bangladesh would hope he comes up with something special tonight. Otherwise... things not looking good for the Tigers.
BAN-A 90/4 (12) Need 72 From 8 Overs
Ramesh Mendis dismisses Towhid Hridoy! And that might be it for Bangladesh A tonight and in this tournament. They had pinned their hopes on Hridoy and he too goes for 12 from 13 balls. Bangladesh A now in all sorts of trouble and it seems Sri Lanka A are getting into the semi-finals as the top team from Group A.
BAN-A 98/5 (14) Need 64 from 6 overs
Back-to-back sixes from Abu Hider Rony in some last attempt to insert some life into this match which seems to be going Sri Lanka A's way. Rony's six was the first boundary for Bangladesh A in 34 balls. Sri Lankan spinners have really strangulated Bangladesh A middle order.
BAN-A 116/6 (16) Need 46 from 4 overs
Abu Hider Rony is swinging his bat hard and connecting a few as well but it seems his late heroics will all go in vain. It would really be a miracle if Rony could pull this off. As of now it seems Sri Lanka A are heading to the semifinals.
BAN-A 131/7 (18) Need 31 From 2 Overs
Sri Lanka A advance to the semifinals of the 2024 Emerging Teams Asia Cup. A late onslaught from Abu Hider Roni has no effect on the result of the game and Bangladesh A, despite a solid start, have lost the match.
SL-A 161/7 (20) beat BAN-A 142/7 (20) by 19 runs.
Bangladesh A were flying at 38 without loss in three overs in a chase of 162 but things just fell sharply after that. Boundaries dried up, wicket kept falling and ultimately despite Abu Hider Rony's 25-ball 38 in the end, Bangladesh A fall short and lose by 19 runs. Pawan Rathnayake and Lahiru Udara were the batting stars for Sri Lanka A and with the ball Dushan Hemantha was yet again the pick of the bowlers with three scalps to his name.
So, the win for Sri Lanka A takes them to semifinals alongside Afghanistan A. Sri Lanka A are the top side in the group so they will face most likely Pakistan while Afghanistan will be up most probably against India A in the semis. The positions in the Group B will be finalised tomorrow.
So, one set of semifinalists is confirmed, another will be done tomorrow. Do join us then. Thank you for following us tonight. Good Night!
