Pre-match Thoughts

"I think IPL is always...teams that have done well...you got to make your home a fortress. We've got some experienced (players) in our team that have played a lot here. So we'll use that experience. It's really important to win at home" - Pat Cummins, SRH captain.

Hardik Pandya To Get Booed In Mumbai?

With former skipper Hardik Pandya getting a hostile reception on his return to Gujarat Titans, former India player Manoj Tiwary reckons he will receive the same at Mumbai's Wankhede Stadium.

"You have to see how Hardik gets welcomed in Mumbai because I think he is going to get booed a bit louder here… Because as a fan, a Mumbai fan or a Rohit Sharma fan, nobody expected that captaincy will be given to Hardik,” Tiwary was quoted as saying by PTI.

Gerald Coetzee Speaking To The Broadcasters

Really enjoyed it (first game), had a great time. It (experience of playing in the World Cup) helped me in understanding the conditions better, got a good grasp of the conditions. He (Bumrah) is such a great quality bowler, like to learn a lot of things from him. He's experienced, probably one of the best in the world. Will take the confidence from that (Gujarat) game, but you also know every game, every ball is a new ball. So you appreciate that, but you move forward and start on a new page.

Pitch, Ground Dimensions

"First game of the season in Hyderabad. Leg-side is 66 metres, off-side is 63 metres, 76 metres straight down the ground. Looks like a great batting track, this one's void of grass. The best time to bat is against the new ball. As the ball loses shine, the bowlers who use variations and bowl slower ones will get purchase from the wicket. Teams need to capitalize in the first 5-10 overs while batting. There's going to be something in it for the fast bowlers in the beginning, something in it for the spinners throughout. Bowlers who hit the deck will enjoy bowling here. A bat first wicket," says Brian Lara.

Toss - Mumbai Indians Win

MI skipper Hardik Pandya wins the toss and elects to bowl first against SRH in match 8 of the IPL 2024 encounter.

Hardik Pandya | MI Skipper

We are going to bowl first. Looks like a good track, we were solid in the last game. Didn't plan properly, that cost us the game. 13 games to go, we need to keep doing the right things. We are positive and looking forward to the challenge. Just trying to spend time with all the players. Getting to know them better. One change, Luke misses out.

Pat Cummins | SRH Captain

Looks like a good wicket. Not too upset. It's a tough tournament, the crowd and conditions will help. A couple of changes. Head comes in for Jansen.

Abhishek Sharma Show In Hyderabad

Heinrich Klaasen, Aiden Markram Attack MI Bowlers

Heinrich Klaasen and Aiden Markram have brought up 200-runs inside 15 overs for SRH as MI bowlers falter in Hyderabad. With five overs still remaining, 250 could be well insight for the home team and pile more pressure on the Hardik Pandya-led team.

SRH - 202/3 (15 overs)

An IPL Record In Hyderabad

Unbeaten knocks of 80 from Heinrich Klaasen and 42 from Aiden Markram took the Sunrisers to a massive 277/3, an IPL record, in the match 8 of the Indian Premier League 2024 against Mumbai Indians on Wednesday. The South African duo put on a 116-run partnership off 55 balls as they scored 75 runs of the last five overs to take SRH to a mammoth total. For MI, their bowling scorecard made a sorry reading with only Jasprit Bumrah with 4 overs and conceding 36 runs.

SRH - 277/3 (20 Overs)

Heinrich Klaasen After His Mammoth Innings

We got the best groundsmen in the world. Was an unbelievable wicket. They (top order batters) set the tempo at the front. There was a lot of pressure coming into this game. We have incredible batters up at the top.

MI Look To Chase Down 278

An improbable task but MI have some talented batters up their sleeves so expect anything here tonight.

MI Lose Openers Despite Strong Start

Mumbai Indians openers Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan started strongly but despite that, the duo were dismissed inside the five overs. Rohit went back for 26 whereas Ishan was out for a well-made 34.

SRH - 277/3 (20 Overs)

MI - 67/2 (5 Overs)

MI Still In The Run-chase Despite Early Wickets

Naman Dhir (26 not out) and Tilak Varma (40 not out) have kept Mumbai Indians right in the mix to chase down 278 with the latter dishing out three sixes of Shabaz Ahmed's over. MI need huge overs and with Tim David coming in next, SRH need to restrict the batting somehow.

SRH - 277/3 (20 Overs)

MI - 141/2 (10 Overs)

Tilak Varma Dimissed By Pat Cummins

In-form Tilak Varma (64) was dismissed by Pat Cummins as SRH look to tighten the screws on MI in their match at Hyderabad. Mumbai Indians require 93 runs off 5 overs and will need a miracle if they are to chase down this target.

SRH - 277/3 (20 Overs)

MI - 185/4 (15 Overs)

SRH Win

A match that has registered many records along the way - most sixes scored in a T20 game (38) and 500 runs recorded. A crazy, crazy night but given the context of the game, a big win for Sunrisers Hyderabad whereas Mumbai Indians remain winless. A 31-run win for Pat Cummins but if this wicket stays true for the rest of the tournament, well, we could be in for a treat.

SRH - 277/3 (20 Overs)

MI - 246/5 (20 Overs)

Travis Head, SRH Batter

Feeling good, the batting team has done an exceptional job in the last two games, feels good to contribute. It was very enjoyable tonight. We were aggressive in the first game as well, that's one thing we want to do at the top. I am pleased I could target both the off-side and leg-side. Earlier I would just target the leg side. It's a great blueprint for us moving forward. Haven't spoken to Tim David yet. You just try to sum up the conditions well. I was pleased how things worked out in the powerplay. They (MI) got so much power and experience as well. With 280-odd, I felt we had enough.

Hardik Pandya, MI Captain

Not really (thought SRH would score 277 at the toss). Wicket was good, 277 no matter how bad or good you bowl, if the opposition has to score that much, they have batted well. They (the bowlers) were good, it was tough out there, almost 500 runs were scored and the wicket was helping the batters, we could have done a few things here and there, but having said that, we have a young bowling attack and we will learn. If the ball goes this many times into the crowd, you will need time to get the overs done. Everyone (the batters) looked good and it is just a matter of time before we put things right. He (Kwena Maphaka) was fantastic, coming into his first game and getting overwhelmed, he was alright and backed his skillset, just needs some game time.

Pat Cummins, SRH Skipper

That was insane. The ball was really pinging around. Not until we bowled, it got a bit too close for comfort. They found a boundary whenever they needed it, but we finished it off well. Really impressive, in IPL you play with a lot of pressure but he plays with great freedom. You never play for 270, but we wanted to be postive and be aggressive, take the game on. It was a good wicket, so we have to suck it up knowing we would go for a few boundaries. What's important is to have clear plans with the ball. Amazing atmosphere in the ground, enjoyed playing here, was incredibly loud.

Abhishek Sharma | Player of the Match

I said in the previous interview too, the domestic season gives us a lot of confidence. The message for the batters is simple - go out and express yourself. The plan was to attack, I enjoyed batting with Head, he's one of my favourite batters, I admire him. He told me to go for it if it was in my zone. I'm happy to be getting my chances, doesn't matter what position I'm playing. I had a chance to talk to Brian Lara last night, that helped me massively. I would rather bowl more in practice than bat, trying my best with bowling as well.

Good Night

An absolute run-fest here in Hyderabad and expect more the same in the coming games. Tomorrow it's RR vs DC in match 9 of the IPL 2024. Till then, good night!
