England Vs Bangladesh, ICC Cricket World Cup 2023: Dawid Malan Becomes Oldest ENG Batter To Score WC Ton

England opener Dawid Malan scored a swashbuckling century against Bangladesh in their ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 clash in Dharamsala on Tuesday. In the process, Malan, who is 36 years and 37 days old as of Tuesday, became the oldest English batter to score a ton in an ODI World Cup match. He overtook former England captain Graham Gooch for the landmark. Gooch was 34 years and 105 days old when he scored his last World Cup century in 1987 against India at the Wankhede Stadium. Another former England captain Andrew Strauss is next on the list. Strauss was 33 years and 362 days old when he scored a ton against India during the 2011 ODI World Cup at the Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. Yet another former England captain Eoin Morgan is fourth at 32 years and 281 days, when he got to three figures in Manchester against Afghanistan during the 2019 World Cup.

When it comes to the oldest England cricketers to score an ODI century, the list is topped by Sir Geoffrey Boycott, who was 39 years and 51 days old when got to the landmark against Australia in Sydney in 1979.     

In the 2023 ODI World Cup match against Bangladesh, Malan scored a stroke-filled 91-ball century on Tuesday, taking England to a position of strength along with former captain Joe Root and fellow opener Jonny Bairstow. Malan was batting at 128 at the time of writing this report and eyeing an even bigger score for himself that would also take his team past the 350-run mark.
