South Africa squad: Temba Bavuma (c), Gerald Coetzee, Quinton de Kock, Reeza Hendricks, Marco Jansen, Heinrich Klaasen, Keshav Maharaj, Aiden Markram, David Miller, Lungi Ngidi, Andile Phehlukwayo, Kagiso Rabada, Tabraiz Shamsi, Rassie van der Dussen, Lizaad Williams.
Heinrich Klaasen scored a 61-ball century (109) and was well-supported by Marco Jansen (75 not out) as South Africa posted a mammoth 399/7 in their alloted 50 overs against England at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. Put into bat, Proteas lost Quinton de Kock early for 4 runs but Reeza Hendricks (85) and Rassie van der Dussen (60) steered South Africa out of danger. However, wickets fell at regular intervals thanks to Reece Topley (3/88) and Adil Rashid (2/61). Klaasen and Jansen then joined forces in the middle-overs as the duo stitched a 151-run stand to take the Proteas to a mammoth total. England would need the second-highest chase ever if they are to keep their floundering World Cup hopes alive.
South Africa, on the other hand, began their campaign strongly with a record-breaking victory against Sri Lanka and then came up with a resounding win over five-time champs Australia, before succumbing to Netherlands' inspirational performance in Dharamsala. It was a loss that would have reminded the Temba Bavuma-led Proteas of their painfully long history of underachievement in the ODI World Cup, and one they would like to forget as soon as possible.
