ONE Flyweight Kickboxing World Champion Superlek Kiatmoo9 is preparing for his third match of the year. But unlike his previous two encounters, this battle will be in a different sport.
On June 23, the Thai superstar faces a 19-year-old prodigy who could be "the next big thing" in Muay Thai.
ONE Flyweight Kickboxing World Champion Superlek Kiatmoo9 is preparing for his third match of the year. But unlike his previous two encounters, this battle will be in a different sport.
The Buriram native will return to his Muay Thai roots for a flyweight showdown with two-division WBC Muay Thai World Champion Nabil Anane at ONE Friday Fights 22, which emanates from the iconic Lumpinee Boxing Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand, on June 23.
Superlek, who is also the #1-ranked flyweight Muay Thai contender, enters his forthcoming contest in elite form.
The Kiatmoo9 Gym representative owns a jaw-dropping 133-29-4 slate, finds himself on a seven-bout winning streak, and kicked off 2023 in epic fashion.
In January, the 27-year-old defeated Daniel Puertas to capture the vacant ONE Flyweight Kickboxing World Championship, and then he knocked out Danial Williams in his first title defense two months later.
But on June 23, Superlek will face his stiffest test of the year.
Even though Anane is making his ONE Championship debut, the tall 19-year-old brings tremendous credentials to the table.
The French-Algerian teenager owns a 33-4-1 record, trains under Mehdi Zatout at Venum Training Camp in Thailand, and holds a pair of prestigious belts.
First, he claimed the WBC Featherweight Muay Thai World Title in May 2022 to become the organization’s youngest World Champion in history. And then this past February, he added the WBC Lightweight Muay Thai World Title to his collection.
Moreover, Anane stands at 6-foot-2 and brings a 7-inch height advantage into his upcoming clash with Superlek. If the teen emerges victorious, he could leapfrog the veteran in the flyweight Muay Thai rankings or even challenge the Thai star for his kickboxing gold at some point.
This bout joins two previously announced World Title fights that’ll top the blockbuster event.
ONE Heavyweight World Champion Arjan Bhullar squares off against interim king Anatoly Malykhin in a unification match, and former titleholders Sam-A Gaiyanghadao and Prajanchai PK Saenchai run it back for the ONE Interim Strawweight Muay Thai World Title.
