Football Transfer Rumour: Chelsea, Manchester United Boosted In Star Striker Chase By Release Clause Revelation

Chelsea and Manchester United have been boosted in their pursuit of Napoli's star striker Victor Osimhen, despite the knowledge that the Nigerian is about to extend his contract with the reigning Italian champions. As per Fabrizio Romano, Osimhen's latest deal - which will prolong his contract by another year - will contain a release clause in the region of 130 million euros, thus providing any interested teams the opportunity to bypass negotiations with the club by triggering it. Both Chelsea and Manchester United have been linked with the Nigeria international in the past, given his obvious goal-scoring prowess. The Premier League pair did splurge on forwards in the past summer, but neither has enjoyed the full benefits of their sizable investments so far. Rasmus Hojlund, whom Manchester United plucked from Atalanta for a massive fee, is yet to score a Premier League goal - although Hojlund has netted regularly in the UEFA Champions League. Meanwhile, for Chelsea, Nicolas Jackson has often displayed his inexperience in front of the goal and Christopher Nkunku is yet to make his official debut, having been ruled out in pre-season due to an injury. 

Twenty-four-year-old Osimhen, however, has featured and scored regularly for Napoli across his three-and-a-half-year stay - at the time of writing - at the club. The Nigerian forward even led the Partenopei to their first Serie A title since the days of Diego Maradona the season before, scoring 26 times in 32 games, and was named the league's Player of the Year for the same.
