Manchester United winger Jadon Sancho has been away from the first team after a public fallout with manager Erik ten Hag, and may be headed to a top Serie A club soon
Jadon Sancho’s days in England are numbered - that is, if reports from Germany are to be believed concerning the latest developments in the Englishman’s ongoing transfer saga. According to a Sky Sports report, Sancho is leaning towards an exit from Manchester United in the early January transfer window of 2024 as he looks to revitalise his stagnant career, which came to a standstill following a public fallout with manager Erik ten Hag. As per the report, Sancho, who only returned to his native country in 2021 after spending four years in Germany, is inclined for a move abroad in the upcoming transfer market. While reports have linked him to a return to his former club Borussia Dortmund or a sensational move to FC Barcelona, neither is deemed likely at present. Rather, Serie A giants Juventus lead the chase for the 23-cap England international, albeit they intend to sign Sancho on a temporary deal instead of a permanent contract.
Sancho has only appeared thrice for Manchester United since the start of the 2023/24 Premier League season; the last of his three appearances came off the bench on August 26 in a 3-2 come-from-behind win against Nottingham Forest. The following week witnessed Ten Hag leave the Englishman out of the matchday squad for a crunch tie against rivals Arsenal, the Dutchman stating his inadequate performance in training as the reason behind his omission.
“Jadon, on his performances in training we did not select him,” said ten Hag. “You have to reach a level every day at Manchester United and we can make choices in the front line. So for this game, he was not selected.”
Sancho, however, fired an immediate retort through his social channels, denouncing ten Hag’s comments and providing his version of the events: "I will not allow people saying things that is completely untrue, I have conducted myself very well in training this week... I've been a scapegoat for a long time which isn't fair!"
Manchester United, in the aftermath of the episode, confirmed that Sancho had been asked to train separately from the group.
Should Jadon Sancho’s Manchester United spell reach its premature conclusion in early 2024, the Englishman would likely leave with 82 appearances in his bag and 12 goals. He had joined the Red Devils from Borussia Dortmund in the summer of 2021 in a deal believed to be worth 85 million euros after four successful seasons with the German giants that yielded 137 appearances and half a century of goals.
