10' A bit of back and forth. NorthEast came close once more and Nestor Albiach this time decided that it was better to pass the ball to his teammate but the shot ultimately was off-target.

Chennaiyin are managing to get into the NorthEast box but they have not quite troubled the Highlanders' defence so far.

21' Brilliant run by Jithin into the Chennaiyin box he pushes it to Nestor who instead of taking the shot choses to pass it to Alaaeddine Ajaraie  who perhaps takes just a bit of extra time to take the shot from the left side of the box and could not find the gap in the Chenniyin defence. Good chance for NorthEast but a goal kick for Chennaiyin.

24' Chennaiyin have kept the ball and have made a few good chances but NorthEast United have really really threatened to double their lead.

An interesting stat coming: Chennaiyin FC have not yet scored in the first half of this Indian Super League.

Chennaiyin FC had not scored a goal in the first half so far this season but now they have. Jordan Gill uses his height to his advantage and jumps the highest to head this corner into the goal. Gurmeet Singh has no chance there but he could have come forward to collect the ball. The corner was served really close to the goalmouth and Gurmeet decided to just stand on his spot and that will cost NorthEast United a goal.

29' A good tackle in the box and Chennaiyin FC have been denied. Irfan Yadwad ran into the box and it was two vs two there. Irfan just seemed to have been in two minds whether to pass or to go for the shot. And in that time, he lost the ball. Good tackle and both sides go into the drinks break with scores level.

36' Chennaiyin FC Score!!!

Chennaiyin get a penalty and via that the lead too. A poor challenge right around the penalty spot by Michel Zabaco who was caught pulling shirt of Ryan Edwards. Referee gives a penalty straightaway and Lukas Brambilla smashes the penalty towards the left side to hand his side the lead.

41' A massive mistake from the Chennaiyin FC defence. Two defenders converge in their third and none of them go towards the ball that is rolling ahead. It is Alaaeddine Ajaraie who gets to the ball and it just him and the goalkeeper. But a well-timed run from Chennaiyin goalkeeper Mitra who runs out of his box to ensure that Ajaraie does not have enough space for his shot. Ajaraie anyways goes ahead with the shot but it is blocked by Mitra.

Big relief for Chennaiyin!

Half-time whistle sounds and it NorthEast United 1, Chennaiyin FC 2 after the first 45 minutes. We had three minutes of added time but significant attacks could not be made in that time and both sides head for the break.

NorthEast went ahead early and looked threatening before Chennaiyin levelled and then went ahead through a penalty.

Second half underway now. The scoreline: NorthEast United FC 1, Chennaiyin FC 2.

NorthEastUnited FC would want the equaliser as quickly as possible. Interesting to see how Chennaiyin approach the second half. They have the lead. Will they play safe or take risks?

51' Chennaiyin FC Score!!!

Chennaiyin extend lead. There is the third goal and the third scorer too. Wilmar Jordán is the man who finds the net this time. From the box, Jordan takes a right-footed shot and beats Gurmeet, the NorthEast United goalkeeper. Things getting tougher for NorthEast United.

57' Ajaraie shows some skills inside the box but can not find that space which he wanted and NorthEast will remain at just a single goal. Ultimately, Ajaraie goes too close to the backline and shoots on the side of the net.

Mohammed Bemammer, meanwhile, has replaced Hamza Regragui for the Highlanders.

61' Chennaiyin threaten again. Poor goalkeeping yet again from Gurmeet and that would have been the fourth goal he would have conceded tonight but gets lucky. Poor collection on Barambilla's cross in the circle and the ball could have gone anywhere out of his hands but it goes out of danger.

70' NorthEast try a few shots from the outside of the box but all of them are blocked. Some desperation setting in it seems among the Highlanders players. They are heading towards their second loss of the season despite yet again taking lead.

Thoi Singh replaces Parthib Gogoi for NorthEast United.

83' Two yellows for Laldinliana Renthlei of Chennaiyin FC and he has been sent off. So, NorthEast United get a corner and there is a touch by Aljaraie at the corner spot. So, Renthlei perhaps thinks that the corner has been taken and he kicks the ball but the referee says no the corner was not taken. So second yellow for Renthlei and he moves off the ground.

89' NorthEast United Score!!!

Alaaeddine Ajaraie draws a foul in the box and then calmly dispatches the penalty into the goal. Five matches and five goals for Ajaraie and he has given NorthEast United a much-needed life-line here. Chennaiyin are down to 10 men and the Highlanders can turn the tables.

90+3' Loopy header from inside the box but just flies over the goalpost. Míchel Zabaco hit that header but not on target. Little time on hand but the Highlanders are showing that they can still draw the game. Will be tough though. Very little time left.

Chennaiyin win!

NorthEast tried really hard in the last 10 minutes or so. They even got a goal but the two-goal deficit was too much to erase in the end. Chennaiyin have won their second match of the season while NorthEast have succumbed to their second defeat.

The Highlanders went up first, scoring in just the 5th minute through Nestor Albiach. Chennaiyin replied in the 25th minute through Jordan Gill's header. The Marina Machans got ahead via a penalty from Lukas Brambilla in the 36th minute. Just five minutes into the second half, Chennaiyin found their third goal of the match. NorthEast tried hard but could only get one back in the 89th minute from the spot and the game ended 3-2 in Chennaiyin FC's favour.

Chennaiyin FC move to the fifth place in the table with this win. They now have two wins and a draw apart from a shock loss to Mohammedan SC. NorthEast United, who have opened scoring in all of their five games, are at eighth with just a single win to show in their five matches and even that came in their opener. So winless in last four matches, despite playing some good football.
