Hello and welcome to the second day of the Hockey India League 2024-25 player auction.
Indian skipper Harmanpreet Singh stole the show on Day 1 with Punjab's Soorma Hockey Club signing him up for a massive sum of Rs 78 lakhs, the highest so far in auction and that too by some distance.
Here are the top five buys from Day 1. Three Indians and two Europeans on the list.

The day 2 of HIL auction begins shortly, at 10am IST. It will be broadcast on DD Sports as well as Hockey India League's newly-launched YouTube channel. The men's auction will conclude today, followed by the women's player auction on Tuesday.
In all, 54 players were sold yesterday, which means 138 slots will be filled today. Players are divided into three base price categories: INR 2 lakh, INR 5 lakh and INR 10 lakh based on the value they selected for themselves. With more than 550 men having registered for the auction, expect cut-throat bidding for the remaining slots on offer.
And the second day action begins with Lot 4, comprising international midfielders. Australia's Lachlan Sharp goes to Rarh Bengal Tigers for INR 18 lakh, Germany's Thies Prinz is sold to Tamil Nadu Dragons for 18 lakh and Great Britain’s Zachary Wallace is bought by Hyderabad Toofans for 26 lakh. Thomas Sorsby of Great Britain then goes unsold, while Australia's Willott Ky is bought by Delhi SG Pipers for 10.5 lakh.
Belgian midfielder Victor Wegnez is acquired by Soorma Hockey Club for INR 40 lakh. Before him, Timothy Cross of Ireland, Spain's Rafael Vilallonga and Thomas Habif of Argentina all go unsold.
Australia's Aran Zalewski goes to Kalinga Lancers for 27 lakh, while his compatriot Tom Craig is bought by Tamil Nadu Dragons for 20 lakh. And with that, the action moves to Indian midfielders. Akashdeep Singh is sold to UP Rudras for 20 lakh, Mohd. Raheel Mouseen heads to Tamil Nadu Dragons for 26 lakh, while Ashis Kumar Topno goes unsold. Jaskaran Singh is then sold to the Rarh Bengal Tigers for 13.5 lakh and Dharamvir Singh finds no takers. Bids unfolding thick and fast here as 23-year-old Indian midfielder Moringthem Rabichandra is snapped up by Kalinga Lancers for 32 lakh.

A total of 51 players were sold in the first half of day 2, with Belgium's Victor Wegnez becoming the biggest buy. Wegnez was sold to Soorma Hockey Club for 40 lakh, while Netherlands' Thierry Brinkman went to Kalinga Lancers for 38 lakh.
The team owners and auctioneer are back after the lunch break, and the second half begins with Japan's Manabu Yamashita and Argentina's Inaki Minadeo going unsold. And with that, the action shifts to Indian midfielders in the INR 5 lakh base price bracket.
The auction of Indian midfielders in the INR 5 lakh bracket continues, and Manmeet Singh is the biggest buy so far as he is grabbed by UP Rudras for INR 16 lakh. Here is how the others fared:

Rarh Bengal Tigers pay 6.6 lakhs and emerge the winners for 17-year-old Gursewak Singh in a bidding war with Delhi.
Just one bid for Dilraj Singh and it came from Delhi SG Pipers who get the forward.
No takers for Harsahib Singh Shammi, Jeeva Kumar HB, Birsa Oreya, Laxman Kumar Baskaran, Hardeep Singh.
A three-way bidding war for Gurjot Singh between UP Rudras, Tamil Nadu Dargons and late entrants Soorma Hockey Club. UP Rudras get Gurjot at 14.5L.
Arsdeep Singh gets 11.5L and Hyderabad Toofans are the franchise that have signed him.
The 21-year-old forward is bought by Delhi SG Pipers for 20 lakhs. Young players are getting some good money here.
Overseas forwards set comes now and most players do not find any bidders. Boris Burkhardy is the only man to get a bid and that is the only bid to get him. Soorma Hockey Club sign Burkhardy for 5 lakhs.
Indian goalkeepers are now up for grabs and Prince Deep Singh is the first name. Just one bid from Tamil Nadu Dragons and they get Singh at 5L
Bikramjit Singh's home at the upcoming HIL will be Hyderabad as the Toofans grab him for 6.2L.
A lot of Indian goalkeepers also going unsold. Ankit Malik, Ashwani Yadav, Ranvijay Singh Yadav, Ali Khan, Abhinav Kumar Pandey do not find any takers.
Soorma Hockey Club get Mohith HS for 10 lakhs. A small bidding war but Soorma would not budge and they get another goalkeeper in their squad.
Prashant Kumar Chauhan's opening bid at 5L is the closing bid for him too. He will play for UP Rudras in the HIL 2024-25.
Not much interest for overseas goalkeepers. Teams already have foreign players in their squads so they are going with caution when overseas names come now.
We are into the Indian defenders set now. The 18-year-old Sukvinder, local defender, will go to Soorma Hockey Club.
Next on the list: Sunil Yadav, Vikramjit Singh, Rahman Masood Khan all going unsold.
Delhi SG Pipers, Tamil Nadu Dragons and UP Rudras fight for Pryobarta Talem. In the end it is the UP Rudras who emerge victorius with the final bid of 9L.
Next on the list, Suman Beck, Somjeet, Prashant Barla unsold.
Joginder Singh goes to Delhi SG pipers for 5.2 lakhs. Just two bids and done for this defender.
Meanwhile, Sharda Nand Tiwari, Manoj Yadav
Chandan Yadav breaks the streak of unsold players in the auction. He is sold to Tamil Nadu Dragons for 6.2L. Six players before Chandan did not find a taker.
11.5 lakhs is what Affan Yousuf will get and he will play for Bengal Tigers in the HIL 2024-25. Soorma Hockey Club tried hard to get him but Bengal were just a bit too determined.
Mohd Konain Dad is the first name in the list of forwards but no one is interested and he goes unsold. Lokesh is unsold. Nikin Thaimmaiah Chendanda too is unsold.
26 lakhs for Maninder Singh. Soorma Hockey Club and the Odisha franchise both went hard for Maninder but in the end it is Soormas who clinch their man.
Soorma Hockey Club also buy Pawan Rajbhar for 5L.
Tamil Nadu Dragons and Hyderabad Toofans did some bidding. In the end Majji Ganesh was sold to the Dragons for 7.2 lakhs.
Rahul Kumar Rajbhar is unsold.
A whole lot of Indian midfielders were not able to find bidders. Tea have to plug a few holes now in their squads. So they are very cautious in who they are trying to draft in their squads.
Hyderabad Toofans and Kalinga Lancers engage in a bidding war but it is the latter who emerge as the winners. 12.5 lakhs is where the bidding stops and the Odisha franchise have the final say.
It was a three-way fight between Delhi SG Pipers, Tamil Nadu Dragons and Gonasika franchise for Uttam Singh. Some hard bidding by all of them but Tamil Nadu Dragons are the franchise that sign Uttam Singh for 26 lakhs.
Talwinder Singh's paycheque will read 14.5 lakhs and it is Hyderabad Toofans for whom the forward will play in the HIL 2024-25. Bengal Tigers too wanted him but Toofans just stormed away with the bidding.
Saurabh Anand Kushwaha's opening bid is the closing bid and it is Delhi SG Pipers who get him at 5 lakhs.
Now we have players with 2 lakhs as base price. Defender Anshu Maurya opens the lot. Soorma Hockey Club sign Anshu Maurya for 2 lakhs. Akashdeep Singh unsold.
Matteo Desgouillons, Bellenger Amaury, Victor Charlet and Mohamed Mea all go unsold. And it is time for Indian midfielders in the 2L base price again. Atul Deep is sold to Rarh Bengal Tigers for 2 lakh, post which Bharat M. K and Bharath K. R both find no takers.
Another bunch of unsold players as the second session draws to a close. In overseas players, Samkelo Mvimbi and Nqobile Ntuli find no takers, while Indian forwards Rajat Minz and Prashant Shukla also end up unsold. And with that, we head for a short break before the final session of the men's auction.
What was supposed to be a short break has now kept on for an hour, but once it ends we will have the third and final session of today. With that, the men's auction will be done and dusted, and all eight teams will finalize their 24-strong squads for the upcoming HIL season. The women's auction, comprising four teams, will follow tomorrow.
The extended break has ended, but not without a fresh update. UP Rudras, Kalinga Lancers and Hyderabad Toofans are yet to fill their quotas of eight foreign players. These franchises will take part in a closed bid shortly. Meanwhile, regular auctions for the remaining Indian players and teams continues. Tanuj Gulia goes unsold, while Vikas Dahiya is sold to Hyderabad Toofans at his base price of INR 2 lakh.
Yash Kumar, Divot Bisht, Manjot Singh Badesha find no buyers in the HIL Auction. Adding to it, Joshu Sesil Vessoakar, Takumi Kitagawa, Wassim Hafiz, Irshad Mirza, Jaymasih Tuti also join the unsold list.
Great Britain’s James Mazarelo joins the UP Rudras for 13 lakh, while Tobias Reynolds-Cotterill, Sahil Kumar and Yogesh Malik Singh have been roped in by Lancers and Tigers for 2 lakh each, respectively. On the other hand, Rarh Bengal Tigers have signed Yogesh Malik for 2 lakh, while Kamalbir Singh has been sold to Team Gonasika for 2 lakh as well.
Ravinder Kharb, Rhythm Bhavesh Mania, Paramvir Singh Saini, Ramesh Nallamuthu, Harwinder Singh, Sunil, and Sundar Pandi all have unfortunately found no bidders in the Hockey India League auction.
Pradip Mandal has signed for Soorma Hockey Club, while the Lancers have roped in Pratap Lakra, and the Indian midfielder Rahim Aakib Sayyed has joined Hyderabad Toofans - all for 2 lakh each. On the other hand, Mohit joins the unwanted list as he goes unsold.
The 21-year-old Indian midfielder Rajinder has been signed by the Hyderabad Toofans for 23 lakh after a bidding war between UP Rudras, Bengal Tigers and Toofans, while 19 year-old Mohd. Zayed Khan is sold to UP Rudras for 2.9 lakh.
Mohit Karma, Jot Ranjodh, Karanjot Maan Singh, Tyron Pereira, Vinodhan V, Yograj Singh, Wilson Xaxa, Amit Kumar, and Ankush Dhiman have all joined the unsold list.
The 22-year-old Indian forward Angad Bir Singh is sold to Kalinga Lancers for 26 lakh, while Sunil Jojo and Sudeep Chirmako have joined the UP Rudras for 2 and 12 lakh, respectively, and Sushil Dhanwar has been signed by Kalinga Lancers for 2 lakh. Tamil Nadu Dragons rope in Abharan Sudev for 2 lakh. Prabhjot Singh joins Soorma Hockey Club and Rarh Bengal Tigers sign Pardeep Singh Sandhu for 3.1 lakh.
Delhi rope in Sumit Kumar for 2 lakh, while Roshan Minz has been signed by the Lancers for 2L. Rakesh Dahiya, Love Kumar Kanojiya, Love Light Kujur have all gone unsold.
The Hockey India League has provided 15 minutes to all the franchises to pick eight players from the unsold list, and the auction will resume in 45 minutes.
A closed-door auction is underway, and the Hockey India League will announce the list of sold players after the end of the session.
