Harmanpreet Singh has been the hero for India so far at the Olympics. He has scored six goals so far and his performance under pressure has been spectacular. He almost scored the match-saving goal for India against Belgium.
Brace yourself. The big game is about to begin. India up against Great Britain in the quarterfinal of the Paris Olympics.
Players are out for the national anthem and we begin with India's first.
Anthems are over and so is the wait. We begin the quarterfinal at the Yves-du-Manoir Stadium in Paris. The sun is out, the crowd is in and the players are at their positions.
India begin with the ball. A little back and forth and the ball returns to Indian players.
Great Britain have tried making a few attacks but Indian defence has stood tall so far not letting their opponents be anywhere near the goal post. Some poor passing from Great Britan around the D has also helped India.
PC For Great Britain
In the first significant attack of the match, the British have been able to find a penalty corner. The ball hits Amit Rohidas' foot and Great Britain find another PC.
Well defended by India again and the two PCs do no damage. Back-to-back PCs but tough defending by Amit Rohidas on both occasions
Great Britain have looked the better side so far, as they have consistently put pressure on Indian defence, which has done well though.
Another attack for Great Britain, but another clearance from the Indian goalkeeper Sreejesh. Some really attacking hockey being displayed by the British early in the game.
Big chance for India
An unmarked Abhishek takes a good low shot but defended well by the British goalkeeper.
Sreejesh saves!
Another PC for Great Britain and a good shot to the left of Sreejesh where Jarmanpreet manages to get a stick on it and then Sreejesh delivers a good clearance.
String of PCs for India
Harmanpreet totally misses the first but get the shot in the second that smashes into a British defender's legs. India get one more PC but that is also defended by the Great Britain goalkeeper.
India and Great Britain both had their moments but the scoreline remains undisturbed so far. Three penalty corners for both sides, but all of them have been put away.
And Great Britain straightaway on the charge. Sreejesh has been able to put the ball away but Great Britain review for a penalty corner. However, nothing comes out of it.
Amit Rohidas receives red card!
Massive moment in the game as Rohidas' stick hits Calnan on the face and the referee feels it is deliberate. Rohidas is sent off and India will have to play with just 10 players throughout the match!
PC for Great Britain
A good block from Sreejesh and India take charge on the counter. Abhishek takes a shot but it is off the target.
GOAL FOR INDIA!!!!!
And it is Harmanpreet Singh again. Skipper leading from the front. India get a PC after some chaos near the British goalpost and Harmanpreet shoots it low and to the British keeper's right to put India ahead.
Seventh goal for the Indian skipper in this campaign.
PC for Great Britain
Would not hurt India again as Great Britain shoot it wide. Another big chance comes up right after the PC but Great Britain have found it tough to find spaces in Indian defence.
GOAL FOR GREAT BRITAIN!!!!
Sreejesh manages one save but the ball goes to Lee Morton right outside the goal mouth and Morton manages to get enough stick to help the ball roll past the Indian goalkeeper. Great Britain have found the equaliser.
Scores level after 30'
It is 1-1 at half-time and we just witnessed a dramatic second quarter. A red card, a goal from India and then a goal from Great Britain. Expect things to heat up more in the second half.
We have seen some really engaging hockey so far in the first thirty minutes of the India vs Great Britain quarterfinal tie at the Paris Olympics. A red card for Amit Rohidas pushed India to 10 men right at the opening of the second quarter. However, even with one man down, skipper Harmanpreet converted a penalty corner to give India the lead. Great Britain though did not let the lead last as Lee Morton scored the equaliser soon enough.
India 1-1 Great Britain and the players are back for the third quarter.
Great Britain taking advantage of India being one man down and consistently penetrating the D. But India's defence has held up so far. Another circle entry but another clearance comes from India.
PC for Great Britain
Great Britain continue to hold possession in this quarter so far and they get a penalty corner. Shot straight to Sreejesh who defends but Great Britain find another PC. This time the shot is out of bounds.
With Amit Rohidas out, India are playing the waiting game so far in this quarter. Great Britain have controlled possession and have consistently troubled India but the defence, led by Sreejesh, has dodged the attacks.
Another PC for Great Britain
But they can not add to the score. Another drag flick right to Sreejesh who easily clears the ball. Britain do have a chance on rebound but they hit it out of bounds.
India continue to be on the defence here. Down to 10 man, India have chosen to be defensive so far in the third quarter. No real threats to Great Britain's goalpost in this quarter. However, even with a lot of possession, Great Britain have not managed to find spaces in the Indan defence.
India 1-1 Great Britain
India have gone on the defensive but the defence has stayed intact. Great Britain have tried a lot to find spaces but that has been really hard for the British. Some poor PCs have also costed them.
India down to 9 men
A green card for Sumit in the last seconds of the third quarter has put him out. He will be back in two minutes.
India try to make an attack but fail. Great Britain at this moment also have a green card so it is 10v10 at this point but it will end within two minutes.
Great Britain miss massive chances!
Within just a minute, Great Brtain have missed three massive chances. India continue to lose possession but Britain also continue to splurge chances. India should consider themselves very lucky. The first chance was almost a one on one with Sreejesh but the Indian goalkeeper managed a save.
Great Britain continue to lurk outside India's D during the last two minutes but the Indian defence refuses to give absolutely any space and we are at 1-1 after the full time.
India played almost three quarters with 10 men and yet managed to restrict Great Britain in this quarterfinal match. It has been absolutely thrilling hockey so far and a penalty shootout will now decide the winner.
All eyes will be on PR Sreejesh and Ollie Payne, the two goalkeepers.
We will have the shot taker and the goalkeeper one-on-one with the former having eight seconds to score a goal. If the ball goes out of bounds it is over for the striker.
Great Britain score in first attempt. James Albery is the scorer
India score as well. Harmanpreet Singh scores.
2nd attempt: GBR score and so do India
Zachary Wallace scores for GBR, for India it is Sukhjeet.
India move ahead!
Conor Williamson misses but Lalit Upadhyay gets it done for India.
Phil Roper misses and Rajkumar Pal, cool as a cucumber, puts the ball past the British goalkeeper and India are through to the semifinal of the Paris Olympics. British players are absolutely heartbroken and Indians are flying. Unbelievable scenes.
An incredible performance from India today. A truly special outing for Harmanpreet and co. They went one man down just at the beginning of the second quarter as Amit Rohidas was sent off for deliberately hitting a British player with stick. The record seemed to have no impact on the Indian team as Harmanpreet, once again, pushed India ahead with a penalty corner. Soon, Lee Morton equalised. Both teams went into half-time at 1-1 but India had a man down. Some resolute defence for the next half an hour meant that despite 15 circle penetrations in the last two quarters, the scoreline was retained.
Match went into shoot-out and PR Sreejesh did PR Sreejesh things to help India eke out a 4-2 win.
India will play one of Germany or Argentina in the semifinal. The Germany vs Argentina quarterfinal also takes place later today.
A brilliant game of hockey for India and they march into the semifinals of the Paris Olympics. Thank you for following us today and we will be back when India takes the field in the semifinal. See you!
