The Board of Control for Cricket in India is the subject of an FIR registered by the Kolkata police concerning the ticketing fiasco that precedes the India Vs South Africa (IND Vs RSA) match on November 5.
An FIR registered at the Maidan Police Station in Kolkata by an unnamed individual alleges that the Board of Control for Cricket in India, the Cricket Association of Bengal, and the online ticketing portal BookMyShow have conspired to con fans hoping to buy tickets for the India versus South Africa clash at Eden Gardens on November 5, 2023. The complaint claims that certain officials of said organisations have knowingly set a chunk of tickets aside from the general pool, thus reducing the public's capacity to buy them directly. Instead, says the report, the accused parties have made the same tickets available for black-market dealers to hoard for personal gains.
Kolkata Police confirmed that the case has been registered, and an investigation is underway. Furthermore, the police have sent a notice to CAB, requesting the appearance of an individual who can verify or refute these claims on November 2, 2023, at the Maidan Police Station. A notice has also been issued to BookMyShow, demanding their assistance with the same.
Additionally, Kolkata Police has also apprehended three individuals for reportedly running a betting ring concerning the ongoing ICC Cricket World Cup. The accused, whose phones have been seized by the police, allegedly travelled between states where World Cup matches would take place, and are rumoured to be linked to a larger conspiracy.
While this goes on in the background, the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 runs as per plan in the fore. India play Sri Lanka on November 2, 2023, before taking on South Africa three days later.
