The ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 has concluded with Australia beating India in the much-anticipated final to win by six wickets and land their sixth World Cup trophy. Throughout the tourney, many batters came to the fore and expressed themselves on the crease. 1) Virat Kohli (India, 765 Runs)
Adjudged The Player Of The Tournament in the final, Virat Kohli has had an unbelievable tournament with the bat. With three centuries to his name, Kohli struck over 700 runs at an average of 95.62. The tournament will be fondly remembered for the Apprentice breaking the Master's record and reaching 50 ODI centuries.
2) Quinton de Kock (South Africa, 594 Runs)
In what was his final outing in the 50-over format, South Africa's Quinton de Kock made sure he left fond memories as the southpaw emerged with 594 runs at an average of 59.40 in ten games. The Proteas were eliminated in the semi-final but De Kock scored four centuries, the most in the tournament, that were a treat for the supporting as well as neutral fans.
3) Rohit Sharma (India, 597 Runs)
It might be a tearful ending for Indian skipper Rohit Sharma in the Cricket World Cup final but he left no stone unturned in his quest to start the innings on a blistering note. Rohit's belligerent form up the order set the tone for India's batters as they managed to serve up wins after wins until the final. He also hit 31 sixes in the tournament, the most hit in the tournament by any batter.
4) Rachin Ravindra (New Zealand, 578 Runs)
New Zealand batter Rachin Ravindra marked his inaugural World Cup by becoming the top-scoring Kiwi batter at the 2023 edition. At 578 runs and an average of 64.22, Ravindra lit up the stage when he scored a brilliant ton on the opening day of the tournament against England. The southpaw was phenomenal with the bat throughout and at 24 years, the Kiwi has a long way to go.
5) Daryl Mitchell (New Zealand, 552 Runs)
Another Kiwi all-rounder that showed phenomenal batting skills was Daryl Mitchell. Despite the Blackcaps not progressing further from the semis, Mitchell's knock of 130 against India was highly talked about. Kane Williamson's men might look back at the 2023 edition as to where their batters did make merry but just felt short at the final hurdle.
6) Glenn Maxwell (Australia, 400 Runs)
The Australian Big Show might be way down the list in the top-scorers list but the 2023 Cricket World Cup would be fondly remembered for his double century against Afghanistan in Mumbai. Reeling at 91/7, Aussies were brought back to life thanks to Maxwell's unbeaten 201 as it went down to be one of the most memorable knocks ever played.
7) David Warner (Australia, 535 Runs)
In what could be his final World Cup, southpaw David Warner made sure it was a memorable one as Australia lifted their sixth World Cup title in Ahmedabad. Warner scored 535 runs at an average of 48.64 that included two tons from the southpaw. He was also a livewire in the field during the final as Aussies made India toil for every run.
8) KL Rahul (India, 452 Runs)
Indian wicketkeeper-batter KL Rahul demonished all the bad vibes coming upto the World Cup as he smashed over 400 runs at an average of 75.33. After facing a lengthy spell on the sidelines, Rahul fought his way back into the team and he did not dissapoint. Moreover, his keeping skills should not go unnoticed as the Karnataka batter was brilliant behind the stumps too!
9) Rassie van der Dussen (South Africa, 448 Runs)
South African batters were a toast in this World Cup and amongst them was Rassie van der Dussen. The Proteas batter hit two tons in this tournament with one including against Sri Lanka in Delhi where they went on to achieve the highest score ever amassed in the history of World Cups - 428/5.
10) Travis Head (Australia, 329 Runs)
A century in the final of a World Cup is always special and Travis Head deserves his place amongst the top batters in this tournament. Despite playing 6 matches, Head's contribution with the bat saw him score two tons (against New Zealand and India). The Aussies have had a brilliant 2023 that saw them lift the WTC Final, retain the Ashes and now ODI World Cup champions.
