ICC World Cup Qualifiers: Sri Lanka Crush Netherlands By 128 Runs In Final

Both teams were confirmed earlier as qualifying teams after securing their respective spots for the 50-over World Cup in India starting September 5.

Sri Lanka emerged as the winners of the ICC World Cup Qualifiers final after beating the Netherlands by 128 runs at Harare.

Sri Lanka, who have been in great touch in the one-day format, registered their 10th consecutive win.

Both teams earlier were confirmed as qualifying teams after securing their respective spots for the 50-over World Cup in India starting September 5. While Sri Lanka will play the showpiece event as Qualifier 1, the Netherlands will be assigned the role of Qualifier 2.

Netherlands won the toss and put Sri Lanka in to bat.

The bowlers did the hard work of restricting the Lions for 233 runs in 47.5 overs. The batters, however, disappointed and could only put 105 runs on the board, getting bowled out in 23.3 overs.

Sri Lanka batters managed to get starts, but failed to convert, save Sahan Arachchige, who scored a 71-ball 57.

Sri Lanka's centurion from the last match Pathum Nissanka made 23 while Kusal Mendis scored 43 runs before falling to Saqib Zulfiqur. Leg-spinner Wanindu Hasaranga played a crucial role with the bat, adding 29 from 21 balls in the latter stages of the innings.

For the Netherlands, only three batters managed to reach double figures, with Max O'Dowd scoring 33 from 63 balls. Vikramjeet Singh (13) and Logan van Beek (20) were the other batters.

Maheesh Theekshana grabbed 4 wickets for 31 runs, whereas Dilshan Madushanka and Hasaranga picked up 3 and 2 wickets, respectively.

Brief scores: Sri Lanka 233 in 47.5 overs (Kusal Mendis 43, Sahan Arachchige 57, Charith Asalanka 36; Vikramjit Singh 2/12) beat the Netherlands 105 in 23.3 overs (Max O’Dowd 33; Dilshan Madushanka 3/18, Maheesh Theekshana 4/31, Wanindu Hasaranga 2/35) by 128 runs.
