India thrashed the defending champions England in match 29th of the ICC Cricket World Cup on Sunday at Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium, Lucknow. Asked to bat first, their first in this edition, India struggled on a tricky two-paced deck. But thanks to skipper Rohit Sharma's 87 and crucial contributions from KL Rahul (39) and Suryakumar Yadav (49), the two-time champions still managed to post 229/9. Then England faded despite a promising start to the chase -- from 30 runs off the first 27 balls without losing a wicket to 129 all out in 34.5 overs. Mohammed Shami got a four-wicket haul (4/22), while Jasprit Bumrah and Kuldeep Yadav returned with figures of 3/32 and 2/24, respectively. (As It Happened | Scores | Photos | Points Table)
